Kimfuge, Are you going to be a frosh at Amherst in the fall, or do you still have another year of high school?

D had a 1540 and 4 SAT IIs all in the mid 700's, she was RD, and her school (top rated private school) doesn't rank (guessing top 20%-25%?) She has top shelf ECs also.

What private school does she go to? Just curious.

I hate stat checks.

No offense, but is prestige your determining factor?

If so, Amherst might not be for you.

By Virginia12345 (Virginia12345) on Saturday, June 12, 2004 - 05:48 pm: Edit

if you want THE most prestige go to harvard. if you want an excellent experience, and AWESOME prestige, go to amherst.

yeah i love Amherst. Many people don't recognize Amherst as one of the top colleges, but i believe all Amherst students know inside they're getting one of the best education in the u.s.

Yeah here in florida nobody has ever heard of Amherst,Williams, Swarthmore or even Princeton, Brown, Dartmouth for that case ... but they all know of the ivy league..the other day I got my friend to agree that stanford is part of that famed league..its a little frustrating explaining to friends that even though amherst is not an ivy its still a great if not greater school ...sigh... i guess i will have to live in the NE to have some respect ...i do like boston and NYC so thats not to bad a prospect :-)

By Nervousmom (Nervousmom) on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 - 02:04 pm: Edit

Don't worry about that. The people who matter (those in the world of academia) will definitely know Amherst. Any graduate school admissions person WILL know and appreciate the difference.

Well all my friends respect the school more because I choose to attend there. So I guess you yourself are a representative of the school you choose to go.
