Anyone know anything about Salve Regina University?

My daughter is entering her sophmore year at Salve. She loves the campus, faculty and social life. Salve was not her first choice school last year but she cannot imagine being anywhere else. If you have some specific questions, I will try to answer.

My son is applying for this fall(2004) to Salve Regina. I would like to know how is the school on weekends? Do all the students go home? How are the dorms if you want to study or do you need to go to the library? If you needed extra help in a subject are the teachers willing to help you?

Most students do not go home on weekends. Salve has an active social scene. In the spring and fall, the kids go to the beach where sailing and surfing are popular activities. There are always student sponsored parties. Salve has sponsored trips in the past to see a play in New York or a Red Sox game in Boston. Providence is only 1/2 hour away and many students like to go there for shopping and nightlife. Transportation is free. Also, Newport always has something going on. The town has a great relationship with the school and Newport seems to really welcome the students.
Dorm life varies depending upon where you live. As a freshman the housing is generally a traditional dorm. Sophmore year students generally live in one of the mansions. Most kids get apartments their junior and senior year. I have not heard of any problems with being able to study in your room but if there was an issue, the library is centrally located and is really quite nice. Many of the kids opt to live in Newport for the summer. They can stay at the school if they get a job on campus.
A real advantage of a small school is the support that can be given to each student. At Salve, this starts with your advisor and continues with each teacher. All the student needs to do is ask. I was very impressed at orientation when we met with my daughter's advisor. The session was not rushed and the advisor spent a lot of time figuring out a schedule that would work. My daughter was an undecided major at the time.
I would recommend Salve as a great option for anyone. However, the ratio of male to female students may be something your son would find appealing. I've heard many of my daughters male friends comment on that fact. Good luck with the search and ultimate decision.
