Discus: Individual Schools: Top Liberal Arts Colleges (LACs): Middlebury College: Best freshman dorm?
By Aawesome (Aawesome) on Monday, May 24, 2004 - 05:40 am: Edit

I've been away, so I just received the package about roommate questionaire and stuff like that. On that paper, it says these dorms are for the incoming freshmen, Miliken, Battle, Stewart, and Allen (right?)

So which one is the best? By best, I guess I mean spacious rooms, good environment, location etc.. Also if I want substance free, does it limit some places? (like are some dorms substance free buildings?)

Also, is there absolutely no chance of getting a single?

Thanks!

Does anyone here have pictures or know where to find pictures of the inside of some of the freshmen dorms at Middlebury? I was unable to see the inside of the dorms on my tour of the campus and am currently trying to buy items for my dorm, but have no idea what the dorms look like. Thanks for your help.

It's very difficult to say which dorm is the best, as they all have advantages and disadvantages. Some freshmen will get singles, but they are rare and highly sought after. Milliken was renovated a few years ago, and is a very nice dorm.

It's very close to the new Ross dining hall, which is awesome. It's also very close to Bicentennial Hall, which is a plus for people that are taking science courses.

Allen is the smallest freshman dorm, and is close to Chateau and a new dining hall that is being built just behind it.

It's also near Bicentennial Hall. Because if its size, the kids who live in Allen tend to form very close friendships.

Battell is the largest all freshman dorm.

It's the center of social activity for freshmen--lots of parties and get togethers there.

Stewart is on the other side of campus, and is much closer to the student center, CFA and athletic facilities. Great location. http://community.middlebury.edu/campusmap/map/building?building=STEWARTHALL

In certain dorms, substance free rooms are in clusters or entire hallways. Some dorms are entirely substance free. It all depends on demand.

The college says that they will begin mailing them in early August, not soon enough for me though, I can't wait!
