My son will be a freshman at Wash U next fall and I would like some advice regarding cell phone service on campus. I would appreciate any recommendations for a cell phone company that students have been satisfied with. My son is probably the only teenager who does not currently have a cell phone but we need to purchase one for him in the next few weeks for his out of town summer job. Thanks for any advice you can offer!

My son has just finished his freshman year at Wash U and he had Verizon. His peer advisor recommended Sprint but we used Verizon because we put him on our plan instead of buying his own. Service was spotty especially inside his dorm. Outside of the dorm and on campus it was fine. The peer advisor said sprint had the best reception.

Verizon has worked well for me. I am from Illinois and St. Louis is still in my "home area". I also get good reception.

Lysse, What phone do you have? We're beginning to wonder if the bad reception is due to a crummy phone.

I have a Motorolla T120..phones have something to do with reception, but its really the availablity of towers in the area for that particular provider. My phone seems to work just fine at Wash U, however i live in an apartment, not in the dorms where reception is typically worse.

I heard it wasnt too good. Apparently Sprint and T-mobile are the way to go.
