Hey - who can tell me anything about CMC? I visited recently and now I love it, what are the class profiles and stuff to get in?

I was pretty much set to go to Georgetown next year (in the MSB Business School) when I got into Claremont McKenna off the wait list. Now I'm torn. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I live in DC. I chose CMC over other top universities, but now I'm transfering. I'm an east coast city girl at heart and Claremont just wasn't cuttin it for me.

But CMC has some great things. They paid for us to see the Matrix Revolutions at 1am in the morning. Have you ever seen a movie with 500 drunk, high, and crazy college students? It was sooo much fun. They do things like that all the time.

Also, they give you money to do whatever you want. My friend and his buddies got the school to pay for them to travel overseas during winter break. All they had to do was attend a couple of leadership conferences and they were given money and could do whatever they wanted.

The school also pays for all alcohol at parties. If that's your thing, it's also never hard to get alcohol. There are several stores neasr campus that don't card. And CMCers love to get drunk...and more than that..they love getting other people drunk! Visiting students, even those that don't usually drink, always end up drinking at CMC! We're known at the 5Cs for our drinking.

You also have four other colleges there and they all have great people. I love doing to Pitzer and Pomona.

But the CMC- Pomona fued is really fun. I have friends at Pomona, but rivals are always fun. I have great stories from sporting events. My friend got jumped when he tried to run the CMC flag around the Pomona half of the field during a football game! That was the best game I've ever been to! CMC and Pomona kept stealing the flag from each other. security had to be called in to keep people from fighting.

CMC is small, but the school spirit is big. Sporting events, especially basketball and football, are always filled.

financial aid is amazing. There isn't one person on campus that would complain.

CMC is not right for everyone though. The social life is not much of a social life. People don't dance at parties...just stand around and drink. You need a car to get anywhere worthwhile. People talk about LA like they go all the time, but they really don't. Most people don't even like driving to LA because there is traffic 24/7.

CMC is very conservative and also very apathetic. Most people are set in their views, but don't care enough about anything to actually get off their butts and doing anything.

Few people do community service and there are not very many clubs and organizations on campus. The few they have on the 5Cs are not very diverse. They are mostly political or newspapers. The other colleges offer more things, but not much.

I guess because I'm used to a lot of culture and people, I just expected more.

But if you want to know anything else, let me know.

fluzzy, I would go to Georgetown, but I'm a little biased. But if you don't like Gtown you can always explore the city and find other things to do...you can't really do that at the 5Cs.

Also, I don't know if this matters to you, but it's something that all east coasters worry about. I didn't care when I went to CMC, but most people have never heard of CMC....they always think it's a community college. When people here about California schools, they usually recognize Stanford, UCLA, or Berkely....not CMC. Gtown has a better rep and is known widely.

LET ME KNOW IF YOU ALL WANNA KNOW ANYTING ELSE!

The school does pretty much pay for anything you want. But they advertise a lot of hype that just doesnt exist. Its also still has a "good ol' boy school" feeling to it, but if you are a white male with a trust fund you wont mind that. If you are a Veg like me, salad and rice are practically the only things you can eat in the dinning hall. Scripps and Pitzer do generally have good vegitarian selections and you can eat at any of the dining halls. It is true that people talk about LA more often than they go there. A car is a necessity unless dining hall food is your thing, you dont mind walking 5 miles to a grocery store, and small time life is ideal. The social scene revolves around alcohol. There are a few larger parties throughout the year (mainly at Mudd) that excellent-but again they revolve around Mudd's ability to provide an array of alcohol. The clubs are lacking. Even if something you wnat to do exists, more than likely there is one person in it, they never meet, and they never do activities. Claremont PD isnt the greatest and have been known to get a little violent with students.
I personally would chose Georgetown, it was actaully my first choice, but i wasnt accepted.

Crzycatdc, I'm going to miss you so much!!
