Thnx... I was wondering why you guys think he has a good chance..? I thought he was an avg or maybe less than avg applicant.

By Invisible (Invisible) on Sunday, April 25, 2004 - 08:52 pm: Edit

Well, for one thing you're GPA and SAT scores are pretty high. I'd work on the SAT2 Math score, though. And as for being average, can't really tell. There are other factors to be looked at, like ECs.

By Caliplaya03 (Caliplaya03) on Sunday, April 25, 2004 - 09:10 pm: Edit

UCD yes, UCLA and UCB are wildcards so don't "expect" acceptances or rejections. some of the people around here are so berating.

they mean your race. The affirmitive action promotes African Americans in universities, thus amplifing chances of acceptances by universites. But dont worry about it, your sats are in the middle 50 % of the student population of those universities, and your extra carriculars are unique. Dont get upset by the racial refference, i think you probably would be qualified, white black yellow brown purple pink whatever

By Caliplaya03 (Caliplaya03) on Thursday, April 29, 2004 - 07:04 pm: Edit

I appreciate the complimant 1212. I thought race wasnt a factor in the UC admission process. Oh and i thought my stats were a lil' over 50% for UCD o well watever. Thanks again

In the case of UCB, if you're doing engineering, you're chances are certainly not "yes" or "definitely." Your race will certainly help...a lot...but engineering at Cal is quite competitive (it's only rated #2 in the country at all...).

Other than that, I'd say that you have a very strong shot at Berkeley and UCLA, and you're a shoe-in at UCD and USC.

By Blah1111 (Blah1111) on Thursday, April 29, 2004 - 07:16 pm: Edit

The UC system abandoned the affirmative action policy that favors students of one color over another; applications are read without regard to the candidate's ethnicity, and it only serves a statistical purpose. You can see that the UC schools' ethnic compositions are not as balanced as many of the other top (private) schools.

That said, you're a fairly qualified student at all of the institutions you listed. However, your GPA and SAT II scores are a bit low for Berkeley and UCLA.

By Tavilach (Tavilach) on Thursday, April 29, 2004 - 07:24 pm: Edit

Oh, really? In that case...

UCB: Hard, but possible. Engineering would be pushing it. Push up your scores a little and you should be set.
UCLA: Possible, but anything but guaranteed.
UCD: I'd be surprised if you got rejected from UCD. Very surprised.
USC: You have a very good shot.

LOL trust me i'm not going to be an engineer. I suck at math and i got a C in chem. I want to be a history or an IR major. O ya and what about UCSD?

You have a very good shot at UCSD. Boosting your scores would ensure your acceptance.

By Caliplaya03 (Caliplaya03) on Friday, April 30, 2004 - 12:01 am: Edit

thanks tavilach. Ya as you can see i suck at math... but i took the math 1c soph yr and i never made it up. What school do you think will be the best for a history major.

By Tavilach (Tavilach) on Friday, April 30, 2004 - 03:49 am: Edit

Berkeley and LA have better history majors than UCSD and UCD. UCB actually has like the second ranked grad school program for history in the country, although I doubt that matters much to undergrads. Good luck with everything!
