will learning a musical instrument outside of school help improve chances of getting into NYU??? and if so, what level do you have to be in to be considered???

According to my opinion, I do believe that music will improve your chances especially if you have weak test scores or what have you. I was accepted into gsp, which surprised me cause I didn't quite expect that I would even be good enough for the adcoms to thoroughly consider me. I played the piano for all four years of high school and I even wrote my essay on Chopin's third ballade. I think that music REALLY helped me to take an extra step forward, wheras, others would have done extremely well academically. In both cases, you should be a well-rounded person doing extracurricular activities and such. Go for music, you have nothing to lose!!!

dont do it unless you want to--dont give in to the "getting into college" game. not that any of the rest of us could avoid it. do things that will make you a better person, that will make you happy. learning an instrument solely to get into nyu can only cause misery.
