So I got my wait list notification in the mail today...

Called the admissions office and when the officer saw my app she was like, "wow. we just had a REALLY tough pool this year."

Good news is that they take "a good number" from the waitlist every year

By Tennizpro06 (Tennizpro06) on Thursday, April 01, 2004 - 08:31 pm: Edit

got rejected, way depressed :( would it be rude to call in and ask why you didn't get accepted?

By Fingercuffs2006 (Fingercuffs2006) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 06:52 pm: Edit

I don't know if they would consider it rude or not, but I know it couldn't hurt. My friend who goes there right now said she knows a girl who got rejected or waitlisted (can't remember which), cried on the phone to an admissions person about how it was the only school she applied to, and they actually let her in! Weird.

Anyway, I'm applying for transfer to Rice. I currently attend Texas Tech University's Honors College, but I hail from Houston (Klein/Spring area).

I was waitlisted as a freshman applicant. The very day I received the card asking if I wanted to stay on the waiting list, I ran the mailman down and had it sent. Then like a month later I got a letter from Rice basically saying "Why haven't you replied about the waiting list? We have already accepted 50 students from the waiting list!" So I ran to email them to tell them I want to be on the list and that my reply must have gotten lost in the mail. 3 days after THAT I got a letter saying "Sorry, we've filled every spot we need from the waiting list. The rest of you are now officially without hope for going here."
Lesson: Call them and make sure they actually receive your card!

What percentage of people who accept a place on the waitlist are eventually offered admission?

By Abz1986 (Abz1986) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 11:44 pm: Edit

Last year 92 people were accepted off the waitlist according to Rice's site. Thats ALOT for a school who's entering class is typicaly 650-750...

did anybody else recieve a "priority waitlist"?

By Shilpa1125 (Shilpa1125) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 02:51 pm: Edit

I can't find my yellow card!! I cleaned my room last night and my boyfriend helped me, and I have no idea where the card ended up. I want to go to this school more than anything, which means a lot considering I live in Houston and want to be far, far away, but I can't find the card! If I don't find it, but I write a letter stating I want to be on the waitlist, will they consider it as a replacement? And, what percentage of people get in off the Waitlist? I know 92 got in last year, but 92 of how many?

By Shilpa1125 (Shilpa1125) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 03:57 pm: Edit

Nevermind the last message--- But I still want to know what percentage of people get in off the Waitlist? I know 92 got in last year, but 92 of how many?

By Abz1986 (Abz1986) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 05:15 pm: Edit

:-/ No idea how much %. But make sure you let Rice know you really want to go there if you're sending the waitlist card.

Good luck Shilpa

I got "priority waitlist"... im hoping thats something good. Anyone else get that?

By Abz1986 (Abz1986) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 11:25 pm: Edit

Maybe that means if you apply for waitlist, you're first to get off once they get room ;)

By Ripvak23 (Ripvak23) on Sunday, May 02, 2004 - 11:24 pm: Edit

If you're on the waitlist, do you have to send your final transcript?

By Sandy (Sandy) on Sunday, May 02, 2004 - 11:38 pm: Edit

I would call them and ask. My guess is that you probably have to.

By Ripvak23 (Ripvak23) on Monday, May 03, 2004 - 03:11 pm: Edit

ok thanks sandy.

For all the wait-listees, don't freak out. I know
plenty of people who got in by wait-list at my school and I'm from north of Houston too. Then again, plenty of kids at my school are turning it down this year (me included) so just cross your fingers.
Btw, I really loved Rice, but since I live so close I'd rather go to a CA school.

By Whoami (Whoami) on Tuesday, May 04, 2004 - 12:16 am: Edit

hey ulaia where are you going in ca?

By Ulaia (Ulaia) on Wednesday, May 05, 2004 - 02:57 pm: Edit

I'm going to Berkeley. And I was happy that I visited the campus first and decided I liked it. Rice is gorgeous in a small, family sort of way but I really liked the openess at Berkeley. Of course, I know so many people going to Rice I'm sure it'll be one of the places I'll visit when I come home in the summer.

By Shilpa1125 (Shilpa1125) on Sunday, May 09, 2004 - 09:11 pm: Edit

Anyone know around when waitlist decisions come out from previous years?

By Hicker (Hicker) on Friday, May 14, 2004 - 12:27 am: Edit

Hey everyone. I was also on the waitlist and I was just accepted into Rice. I am actually originally from Woodlands, but moved a few years ago, but I lived there for 13 years.

By Abz1986 (Abz1986) on Saturday, May 15, 2004 - 12:07 am: Edit

Congrats

By Shilpa1125 (Shilpa1125) on Saturday, May 15, 2004 - 09:05 pm: Edit

How did you find out? Did they call your or through mail...? Where do you live now? Has anyone else found out? I really want to find out, and I'm wondering if they've already let everyone know or if just a few people know already or what.

That's very interesting Hicker....

On April 18 you said that you had already been accepted:

"I was accepted into all of those three colleges, Rice, Cornell and CMU"

I was just curious which time you were lying.

Christ, Original, what good can come from your last post? What do you hope to accomplish by humiliating or "exposing" Hicker? Just seems to me like a pretty sadistic--not to mention pointless--thing to do...especially since it could have been handled in a much more diplomatic fashion.
