By Applebumz (Applebumz) on Monday, March 29, 2004 - 10:09 pm: Edit

i'm currently a sophomore in a public high school and i have a transcript average of 92.3, i took the psats and scored a 1100, but i'm going to improve for the real sats. i take a few honor classes in school and plan to take at least 3 ap courses by senior year. also, i will take the sat II'S in chinese and spanish, and maybe biology also. i'm in the national honors society, school's asian club, archon, key club, was in orchestra for 1 and 1/2 years, plan to join arista in junior year, volunteered for 100+ hours during freshman summer at a local church and this summer planning to attend nyu's summer program. Outside of school, i've played the piano for 3 years and got to level 5 in the Associated Board of music, and i plan to move to level 6 by junior year. PLEASE be honest.....wat do you think my chances are of getting into nyu???...and feel free to list ur questions...and i'll be happy to answer them if i am able to.

You're off to a good start but it's really impossible to say what your chances are this early in the game. I would recommend, though, that you take as many honors and AP classes as you can. Do well on your SAT's and keep your gpa as high as possible. Work hard, apply, and hope for the best! Good luck!

Hey Matth

any idea how the waitlist process works? If you are 6th on the waitlist is there a chance? You seem to have alot of information so i thought i would check with you.

I didn't realize that NYU had notified people yet who were on a waitlist. When did you hear? And what college at NYU?

Actually it is for Boston conservatory and they said he was 6th on the list.

Oh, sorry, but I don't really know anything about Boston conservatory. I would imagine that the best thing to do is to call them and ask how many were on the list last year and how many got in from it. Schools should be able to provide this info. I would think with a school like that, that it might be a little different than at a regular college program to get in off a waiting list. Simply because that applying to that type of program is so selective and that most kids who apply won't get in at lots of different schools, ya know? Good luck to you.

Take AP classes, but don't stack up a huge load. Let yourself take that free period each year. Colleges would rather see As and Bs than just Bs.
