I am really surprised that the air force and navy forums have over 500 posts with people posting daily while this one has only 40. I am posting this to try and revitalize this forum.

I am too. Does anyone one know what the process is if you received an alternate nomination? I needed a medical waiver so I wasn't eligible for an LOA, but I received my medical waiver at the end of January and am now fully qualified, but I haven't heard anything from west point yet.

To my knowledge the alternate process means that if the regualar nominee fails to meet qualifications or declines an offer of appointment, then an alternate is chosen. I am not too sure how it works but it is something along those lines.

Am looking for specifics on IAW...how participants are selected...Need more information than the generic GPA, SAT, and xtra curriculars criteria. Does WP pick people they want to "recruit" to attend? Or is it a first come first served- based primarily on academics? Does sports participation play a part in the admissions process? Finally, is transporation provided from major NY airports to WP, or are the students on their own to get there? Thanks.

The IAW in my opinion relies most heavily on SAT scores. I applied for that and was rejected even though I was varsity in 3 sports great grades etc.... however my psats was around 1180-1210. Getting rejected doesn't mean you won't get in and getting accepted doesn't mean you will. I didn't get in and I am positive it was my very low psats b/c after taking my SAT's(which I actually tried on)and finished my file I got an LOA and an appointment to the class of 2008. If you have high psat's, nothing else realy matters for the IAW. Transportation isn't provided for it, only regualar academy admissions have that service.

I lurk around here sometimes. I used to be interested in service academies, but I ended up just going for ROTC scholarships (Army).

There are forums for perspective students and parents that are listed on the USMA website. They are moderated by USMA parents and grads. That is why this is no well attended.
