Today, my family and I were driving on 101 South and we saw an exit for Stanford U. We took it just to check it out, and God, when I got there... I was overwhelmed. Stanford has to be the best campus I've ever visited; it's so frikkin' beautiful: immaculate, friendly, green, fresh, new, and sexy. I just loved it, and in my mind, I kept wondering, "Why did you apply to Stanford when you KNOW your chances are SO slim? Just WHY do you reach for stuff you can't have?"

So what do YOU guys think of the campus?

By Itempest (Itempest) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 02:43 am: Edit

Yes. Sexiest campus in existence.

Of course, if I get in, I wonder what it'll feel like. Will it feel like home or some pristine palace which I dare not bring my foulness upon?

I wonder

I saw it 4 years back.
I thought it was heaven
Enough said.

By Memememe (Memememe) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 03:29 am: Edit

I live quite close by, visit it very often (used to go once a week for ARML practices), and will be there next week for Stanford Math Tournament. Anybody coming?

According to my student tour guide, it's the second-largest campus in the world, second to Moscow University.

I wouldn't call it heaven, because in my ideal college campus, I think things could be closer together so that I can walk easier from place to place. Stanford is one giant beautiful piece of art. I prefer MIT or Harvard, though, but I guess it's mostly because Stanford, being only 90 minutes away from home, just isn't far enough for where I want my college to be. Also, Stanford's undergraduate program, with its trimester system and more of a focus on doing, rather than the thinking, may not be the perfect fit for me. However, I want to go to Stanford for graduate school, most definitely. I think many people debate whether Stanford is good for college, but for graduate school, there is absolutely no debate. Stanford is a great campus, and one of the best schools in the US for graduate studies, if not THE best.

It all ends up as stuff done, mate.

This one's a no brainer.

Anyone who's been down Palm looking towards Memorial Church falls in love with the campus. It's a goddamned pristine paradise.

Well phrased CollegeGuy!
What I don't get is how you liked the MIT campus Memememe? I thought that was a really really sad/pathetic campus [with the long, endless concrete corridors]. Harvard, on the other hand, was fantastic.
I guess I understand why you don't think Stanford is heaven-ish-- you're very close to it, and have been seeing it for a while. But for some of us, who've seen it once or twice, it still is a paradise.

By Samueladams (Samueladams) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 11:32 am: Edit

And those of us that have never seen it, and hope it really is all everyone claims it to be, are waiting to see if it truly is "heaven". I really hope it is, I know for me, that I want a beautiful campus because it makes me feel like i'm in an amazing place, idk, I just appreciate it all more when everything is gorgeous, it's inspirirng. As for MIT, I thought it was drab too. Cold, gray, and everyone had their heads down, yet it's the only other school I applied to, so hopefully Stanford blows me away.

i thought it was really boring actually. i've visited twice, this year as well as last year (and I live in Canada!) i liked berkeley much better. stanford seemed stuffy and formal, berkeley was beautiful but a lot more liberal and artsy-seeming. plus the stanford bulletin boards had nothing of interest whereas berkeley had a big Yellowcard ad on a bench! anyways. i still saw a hot emo boy at stanford, sooooo yeah.

By Itempest (Itempest) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 12:51 pm: Edit

Formal is an appropriate descriptive word, I agree. I think, though, that it will turn less formal once a person begins to settle in.

Formal is what I thought of my high school too, when I first came. Today, it's like a second home to me. :)

Errr... Samuel...
Ummm... Well... Maybe you shouldn't start expecting a heavenly campus-- that can only lead to a slight disappointment...
Although I, like Stanfordrulez thought the campus was paradise-ish, I think you should leave that up to your own assessment of it.
Seriously.

jennyzsong...i think you might have mixed up stanford and berkeley. berkeley is kinda gray while stanford has a really dynamic campus. thats what i thought at least.

By Chicken (Chicken) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 02:49 pm: Edit

lol itempest "sexiest campus"...you know, stanford has a saying: 9 outta 10 girls from california are hot. the other goes to stanford. doesn't quite apply to the campus itself, but it should be said.

By Jennyzsong (Jennyzsong) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 03:05 pm: Edit

chicken, i am not confusing the two :)

berkeley was gray yes but it was so much greener and wild and atmospheric, in my eyes. it was also raining when i visited which just added to everything. i love rain.

By Foreignboy (Foreignboy) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 09:59 am: Edit

This reminds me of that movie in which Anthony Hopkins plays the guy who lives with gorillas, and he will stand in the rain and discover the meaning of life.

By Chicken (Chicken) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 10:08 am: Edit

i think i know what movie you're talking about. the one w/ cuba gooding jr? "instinct". a weird movie. though hopkins is as usual the best.

By Neona (Neona) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 07:08 pm: Edit

Stanford is top-notch.

Oh yes, Jenny was confused.

:)

But we're all allowed to be confused on Sunday afternoons...

How can you drive down the Palm tree path looking at the field and flowers and the colorful buildings and call it stuffy?

By Entropicgirl (Entropicgirl) on Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 10:46 pm: Edit

I'm not too fond of pictures of Stanford, but I'm going there in a few weekends. *crosses fingers* I really hope I like it!

By Chicken (Chicken) on Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 11:25 pm: Edit

entropicgirl, you'll absolutely love it. i practically live on stanford, and i can't get bored of it. absofrickinlutely beautiful. think a big hacienda w/ palm trees. and if you're not here for school, stanford shopping mall is one of the best high-end shopping areas in the entire bay area.

By Itempest (Itempest) on Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 11:38 pm: Edit

Chicken, I'm just wondering, do you go to Gunn high school?

By Jennyzsong (Jennyzsong) on Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 11:50 pm: Edit

i know that stanford is top notch. it looks top notch. it just looks overly top notch, and i'd rather not go to school at a perfectly manicured ... thing

By Chicken (Chicken) on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 12:18 am: Edit

lol jennzsong "manicured" is one way to look at it.

nah itempest, nearby though. i know a coupla ppl at gunn.

By Collegeguy (Collegeguy) on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 06:15 pm: Edit

By Jon (Jon) on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 07:36 pm: Edit

stanford's is nice, but i'd agree with jenny, berkeley's campus is more impressive.

By Efilsiertaeht (Efilsiertaeht) on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 08:06 pm: Edit
