I haven't seen any posts about this college on this board. Wondering if anyone is considering going here. I am an alum and would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

What is it like?
What is the general academic/social atmosphere?
Did you enjoy your time their?
Would you reccommend that other students attend?

I can't tell you how wonderful this school is. It is a hidden gem. As for the academic scene, it is very serious. Kids study. It's looked at as odd if you are a blow off. That keeps you on track. The social scene is great with Notre Dame right there. There certainly are dates, dances and tons of parties to attend. The nice thing is that your dorms are all female. There are guys when you want them around and not when you don't. You can attend classes, eat and participate in clubs etc. at Notre Dame as well. However, Saint Mary's does have it's own identity. The nice thing is that you are instructed by actual professors instead of TAs. They really care about you succeeding and are available for the students. I wish I could express just how special a place SMC is. If you are interested, go for a visit and stay with a student. They totally prepare you for getting a job or grad school etc. Seriously consider going.

Would it be possible to take an entire major only offered at Notre Dame and still be a student at St. Mary's?

Well, yes and no. The two schools do share some departments, so it would matter which major you wanted. For example, SMC does have a 3/2 program with Notre Dame for Engineering and Architecture. Basically you end up with 2 degrees; one from SMC one from ND. The education, nursing and communications/theater departments at SMC are co-opted for ND students. You are allowed to take any classes at either campus for the most part as well. ND is definitely a big part of SMC. But, if you are only considering SMC to really be a ND student, you might be happier somewhere else. Many students do transfer from Holy Cross and SMC. But, they are sort of straddling two schools.
