Thank you so much for any opinion you leave, it is greatly appreciated!!!

Your courseload is too weak. That, in combination with a not superb GPA, is the only thing that will hold you back because I think legacy and the letter of rec will be of use to you even though the relationship to the dean is a bit of a stretch.

what do you mean weak courseload?? i've taken basically the max every year, just not advanced english in sophomore and senior year, but besides that i've basically taken the most advanced classes as possible. also, what do you mean by "the rtelationship to the dean is a bit of a stretch"? my dad's friend is personal friends with the dean of admissions and emailed the rec. straight to him cause they are tight

By Candi1657 (Candi1657) on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 08:47 pm: Edit

I think when judging whether someone's courseload is weak or not, they should know how many advanced courses are available at the person's school.

By Chen (Chen) on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 - 12:17 am: Edit

That's true that they're judged in relation to the school's courses, and your SAT scores prove that your school isn't just a piece of cake, but still, that really is the only part of your app that'd hold you back from admission because a good part of the applicants will have tougher courseloads and the rest of your credentials is great. You're probably in, dude, but what do we know about admission? We're just here to blindly guess.

Your GPA is a bit weak. Your SAT I scores are decent and your SAT IIs a bit low, but you have connections which could help you out a lot. The fact that your sister is doing well there and you know the dean just might be enough to get you in. Good luck! I wish you the best!

By Dohinc (Dohinc) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 05:27 am: Edit

pray for your connections to pull through cause you don't deserve to get in on your own merits. Thats a low gpa... but what do i know? what do you want us to say, i mean we don't understand the extent of your connections, obviously your stats are low...

You guys are pathetic.... First off, his GPA is NOT low. He is ranked in the top 10% and his GPA is about average at WUSTL. Second, his SAT is near the 75th percentile and his SAT II average is at about 700. Overall, you are an above average applicant so don't listen to these fools claiming that your "connections" are the only reason that you can get a foot in the door.

By Nickster (Nickster) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 10:38 am: Edit

Your SAT's and GPA certainly fall within range of half the students who are currently enrolled at WUSTL. Your EC's are terrific...anyone who knows anything at all about competition band programs knows how much time is required to participate to the extent that you have. All that being said, you aren't top scholarship material, but then only 36 people out of WUSTL's huge applicant pool are. Thankfully, WUSTL isn't just for genius-level Einsteins. There are plenty of normal people there. If you get in, don't assume that it was ONLY because of some connection; it might well have been due to your own merits.
