well you have good Sats 1 and 2 scores, and a decent GPA, but more importantly you have two MAJOR hooks, you are hispanic and first-generation college. With that in mind i think you could probably get in anywhere. In regards to financial aid, WashU matches 100% of your financial need, plus they have a bunch of scholarships for hispanic students, so you'll probably get a pretty sweet fin. aid offer if you do indeed get accepted.

Thanks for the response! Hopefully my midyear grades are enough to ease any concerns about my potential to do well in classes. My school is pretty damn competitive (4 NM Finalists in a class of a little over 100) and there is no grade inflation so hopefully that is also taken into consideration. Any other comments? Thanks again!

You have a decent shot with your good stats and all. I would advise you to express your interest in WUSTL in a written letter or essay to the admissions office, so they dont penalize you for not visiting. Just be aware that Wash U admissions have become A LOT MORE competitive and selective. Even well-qualified applicants who have expressed a lot of interest in the school have not gotten in, especially the case this year.

Good luck with the admissions process and hopefully I'll see you at Wash U next year.

Pdragon: Were you accepted ED? Did you visit or write them a letter explaining why you couldn't visit? What type of information should my letter contain? I was thinking something along the lines of "I was unable to visit or apply ED due to financial problems, but I would just like to let you know that WUSTL is my first choice." Yes, I'd make it more than one sentence, but that is pretty much the message i would like to convey.

Culovv, I was indeed accepted EDI. I was able to visit, however, so I never had to write them the letter. I do think that if you show a lot of interest in Wash U, it's a definite plus. I wouldn't say it would gurantee you admission because Wash U is much more selective now, but it would give you a little boost. I think that if you mention how you were unable to visit do to financial problems, and mention that it's your first choice, that's fine. I would maybe throw in why you like Wash U so much, so that Wash U can see your interest is sincere.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Good luck in the college process.

P.S.

I would also include in that letter your new SAT scores. Even though it may be past the deadline, they still look good and defintely could not hurt. I would then send an official score report.

Best of luck, Culovv. Wish I had a clue about what to expect from an admissions standpoint. I'm Native American, have taken all available AP classes, 3.91 unweighted gpa, 4.55 weighted, 11 out of 465 rank, lots of EC, but I was only able to swing a 29 on the ACT and a 1240 on the SAT. I did visit the campus, but it wasn't until last weekend, due to scheduling problems earlier. So I don't have any idea. Fortunately, I've already been accepted to my two top back-up choices, so we'll see what April brings! (Obviously, the other issue will be financial....for some strange reason, Wash U doesn't have as good a scholarship offering for Native Americans as they do for some other minorities. So even if I get in, I'll have to see what the financial aid possibilities are!)

Nickster: Do you live on a reservation? That would be a HUGE help. I'd say you have a great chance, but we are both sort of strange cases. Good luck!

No, I don't live on a reservation, but I do live within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation, and I'm on the Cherokee Rolls as a registered member, so hopefully that will help. Perhaps we'll see each other in St. Louis!
