by March 1st

By Goneinfivemin (Goneinfivemin) on Thursday, January 29, 2004 - 05:54 pm: Edit

I called the admissions office today and they said by mid-march. Of course, they also said even if we were scholarship finalists we weren't guaranteed admission.

By Shsjonb (Shsjonb) on Friday, February 20, 2004 - 07:58 am: Edit

How can they tell you by mid-march if the finalist's weekends are in late March. Shouldn't they giveus more than a weeks notice?

By Jiucai88 (Jiucai88) on Friday, February 20, 2004 - 12:30 pm: Edit

Anybody apply for the Moog scholarship?

By Memememe (Memememe) on Friday, February 20, 2004 - 11:41 pm: Edit

I am a Compton Fellowship finalist.

C'mon. Scholarship finalists not guaranteed admission? Please.

By Rondafaye (Rondafaye) on Friday, February 20, 2004 - 11:50 pm: Edit

Anyone hear from Mylonas?

By Syders11 (Syders11) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 12:12 am: Edit

When did you hear about the Compton Finalists? I applied for Lien. Did they mail you or email you?

By Flyingnow (Flyingnow) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 09:32 am: Edit

Notice came by e mail.

Were you surprised at how many applicants there were for the Compton?

By Goneinfivemin (Goneinfivemin) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 10:26 am: Edit

Yes!!! Moog Finalist Here--I guess they let us know earlier. I only have a teensy problem now. I really want to go to my senior prom and it is on April 3. Any suggestions?
Were there ~2100 applications for Compton as well?
LOL I know Memememe, but the guy I spoke to said we could feel pretty good about our chances, but nothing was set in stone. I find that difficult to believe.

By Sasmom1 (Sasmom1) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 10:51 am: Edit

how many applicants for compton? How many finalists? When did you find out?

Anyone heard anything on Conway-Proetz Art Scholarships or Friends of Music yet? If so, when did you find out, and did you get an email, letter, or phone call? Just FYI, I'm RD, so haven't received an admission decision yet, and haven't heard anything on the Art or Music scholarships.

By Memememe (Memememe) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 11:58 am: Edit

I think more than 2,100 refers to everybody who applied to Honorary Scholars Program in the College of Arts & Sciences (Compton, Moog, Lien, Mylonas). Since they give 12 scholarships total, it seems appropriate that they'd invite 36.

By Flyingnow (Flyingnow) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 01:27 pm: Edit

12 full scholarships and 24 half scholarships from the same pool. So wouldn't they invite more than 36 total for 36 total possible scholarships?

By Flyingnow (Flyingnow) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 01:31 pm: Edit

By the way and sorry not to have replied in full before, Compton notice came Friday (yesterday) by e mail.

By Cantwait4colleg (Cantwait4colleg) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 01:34 pm: Edit

so, if we didn't receive an e-mail, can we consider ourselves out of the running? i applied for Lien.

Goneinfive -- When did you learn that you are a finalist? Wondering if the e-mails for all scholarships went out yesterday (Friday)? I applied for the Mylonas but haven't seen anyone post about it.

By Madrigal (Madrigal) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 05:12 pm: Edit

I applied for the Mylonas too. I haven't heard anything.

By Syders11 (Syders11) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 05:20 pm: Edit

anyone apply for Lien and heard anything?

By Goneinfivemin (Goneinfivemin) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 09:35 pm: Edit

I got the moog e-mail on friday. They informed danforth scholars earlier this week, honorary scholars on friday, i believe.

By Over30 (Over30) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 09:48 pm: Edit

At least 10 kids from our school applied. Has anyone heard anything about the engineering scholarships yet?

By Goneinfivemin (Goneinfivemin) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 10:04 pm: Edit

I am beginning to agree with Memememe. It seems like a lot to fly 36x4=144 students to campus to interview. Maybe I am just hoping each finalist is given a full/half tuition scholarship.

By Memememe (Memememe) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 10:43 pm: Edit

Well, I know someone who applied for engineering scholarship. And this guy is extremely well qualified. As in Siemens regional finalist and RSI alum (and his brother has a half-scholarship at WashU), with a genuine interest in going there. He hasn't received any word, so keep yer hopes up.

By Martinguitar (Martinguitar) on Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 11:30 pm: Edit

o well....i guess my moog scholarship isnt coming...definitely not going...damn

By Rondafaye (Rondafaye) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 12:11 am: Edit

Don't feel bad . . . I can't go without a scholarship either. No need-based aid, and can't afford to go deeply into debt.

By Martinguitar (Martinguitar) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 12:13 am: Edit

same boat....great...gonna have to bank on upenn...which is just insane...UCONN!

By Syders11 (Syders11) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 01:30 am: Edit

I think I might just be a little too hopeful, but it seems like the only people that have heard (at least on this board) are compton and moog, the science scholarships, so maybe the social sciences ones (lien and mylonas) haven't come out yet. This is probably not true and I am just not a finalist..but you never know.

By Outwestmom (Outwestmom) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 08:42 am: Edit

Sorry, Snyders11, the Lien notice came out on Friday at least for my D. Does anyone know what to expect of the weekend? Also, could it really be fly in 36 for 36 scholarships (1/2 and full)?

By Goneinfivemin (Goneinfivemin) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 09:04 am: Edit

How many total applicants were listed on the Compton and Lein notices? For Moog it was 2135. I will call right away monday to get the details and find out what occurs sunday the 4th (since prom is the 3rd). If there is any question at all, I will not be attending my senior prom.

LOL! If it is only 36 finalists--we have four of them on this board :).

By Madrigal (Madrigal) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 01:27 pm: Edit

Ggrrr. . . . I really wanted Mylonas too.

By Memememe (Memememe) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 02:10 pm: Edit

Anyways, I'm pretty sure it must be 36 finalists total. First of all, we all got the same number 36/2135 or so. Second, 144 is indeed a lot. Third, I don't think 12 scholarships means 3 of each. I'm sure if they have extremely strong humanities one year, they'll give more humanities scholarships, and likewise for Compton or others too.

I'd expect that if they fly 36 people, they're willing to give them quite a lot of incentive to come to the university. What better way than a scholarship for everyone?

I'm looking forward to meeting some of you. I'm very excited, though this means I have to reschedule my musical performances. However, I'm THAT important. hehehe...

By Flyingnow (Flyingnow) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 03:08 pm: Edit

Yeah, that's what we've concluded--mostly likely 36 for all four disciplines. So everyone there is (most likely) a scholarship winner; the interviews are primarily to determine the exact amount.

By Jiucai88 (Jiucai88) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 04:19 pm: Edit

First of all, congratulations to all those who made it. Do you mind to post your stats here?

By Cantwait4colleg (Cantwait4colleg) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 05:46 pm: Edit

Yes, would some scholarship finalists please post stats?

By Memememe (Memememe) on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 09:25 pm: Edit

My stats are in profile, but I also have national-level recognition, like Siemens AP national winner and RSI.

By Goneinfivemin (Goneinfivemin) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 05:16 pm: Edit

Howard Nemerov Writing Scholarship results are out. I didn't make it, but no big deal at this point.

By Cantwait4colleg (Cantwait4colleg) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 05:19 pm: Edit

How do you know you didn't make it?

By Ivybound01 (Ivybound01) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 05:22 pm: Edit

wait, do they actually tell you that you did or did not make it? Or should we just assume? ANyone hear from bio summer scholarship and USP in medicine?

By Goneinfivemin (Goneinfivemin) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 06:00 pm: Edit

They sent me a letter for nemerov that said they only took 14 finalists out of 446 applicants. I was not a finalist for that.

As far as music and bio summer scholarship, I applied but have not yet heard. I called the admissions office and they said mid-march. ha! they said mid-march for the honorary scholars and for the nemerov as well. I wonder how closely the admissions office and selection committees work together for WashU scholarships.

By Madrigal (Madrigal) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 06:38 pm: Edit

I'm still hoping for Mylonas. . .
It seems they haven't notified everyone yet, and I read on the site by March, 1. So, who knows? It's be really nice to go to college for free . . . . . .

By Rondafaye (Rondafaye) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 07:26 pm: Edit

Madrigal -- I'm with you on that. I really need the Mylonas -- or at least a 1/2 tuition scholarship -- to make Washington University a possibility. So far, no one has mentioned the Mylonas, so maybe . . .

By Madrigal (Madrigal) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 08:21 pm: Edit

It'd be cool to see you there in April. Let's hope.

By Atpchik (Atpchik) on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 09:36 pm: Edit

"I wonder how closely the admissions office and selection committees work together for WashU scholarships. "

-When I visited WashU the admissions counselor that I talked to said that scholarships are done COMPLETELY seperate by faculty members. The admissions committee has no hand in it.

BTW, where did you read that all results come out March 1?

By Fatherofed (Fatherofed) on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 - 10:39 am: Edit

For those who are wondering if the scholarship committee and admissions work together, I think the answer is that they do not. My daughter was admitted First Round Early Decision and just heard that she did not get a Nemerov Scholarship. The letter wished her luck in her application at Wash U and elsewhere!!

By Filo895 (Filo895) on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 - 11:29 am: Edit

I just called the admissions office to find out if email notifications for all of the Honor Scholarship finalists had already gone out. The receptionist said that letters are being sent on March 1; she also said she had "no idea" whether or not all email notifications had gone out. (She didn't seem to know that any had been sent, actually.)

By Concerned (Concerned) on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 - 11:40 pm: Edit

What are the honor scholarships? Do they differ from Lien, etc.

By Filo895 (Filo895) on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 - 11:52 pm: Edit

Honor scholarships are the four: Lien, Mylonas, Moog, and Compton.

By Rondafaye (Rondafaye) on Saturday, February 28, 2004 - 09:24 pm: Edit

Anyone ever hear from Mylonas?

By Dad99 (Dad99) on Tuesday, March 02, 2004 - 12:24 pm: Edit

according to someone I spoke with in Engineering, the 12 finalists have been notified by phone. The other 18 or so 1/2 scholarship students will be notified in the next week or 2.

By Goneinfivemin (Goneinfivemin) on Tuesday, March 02, 2004 - 08:03 pm: Edit

^^That's for engineering, right??

By Dad99 (Dad99) on Wednesday, March 03, 2004 - 08:58 am: Edit

yes, my post was only about engineering

By Filo895 (Filo895) on Wednesday, March 03, 2004 - 10:57 am: Edit

Has anyone received a rejection letter for Mylonas? My daughter applied and hasn't heard one way or another, and though I can't imagine she's a finalist (it seems email notices for Lien, Moog, and Compton's went out some time ago), I was wondering if anyone's been rejected from Mylonas or heard about it at all.

By Madrigal (Madrigal) on Wednesday, March 03, 2004 - 02:24 pm: Edit

I applied for Mylonas, and have not heard a thing yet. I thought I had a good chance of at least being a finalist (Stats in Profile) and really wanted the scholarship. Hopefully we will know by the end of the week, as letters were supposed to have gone out March 1st.
