Chinese-American. Risky essay on conformity.

Thanks. I know my SAT is OK for NYU, but is my GPA too low? I thought NYU admissions were pretty consistent, but it's odd...last year, I saw they rejected someone from my school with a high GPA (mix of As and Bs in AP and honors classes) and a 1560 on the SAT I ED (maybe my school entered the stats in wrong)!!

NYU would never reject a 3.6+/1560 that applies ED. Unless there is something really wrong with the kid (crimes, HORRIBLE sat ii's, etc.) then someone isnt telling the truth.

Yeah, and that kid was probably top 5% and got accepted to Dartmouth and Middlebury. I think he was applying for film studies, and maybe his work for that was really bad?

Any opinions for me though? :(

It's quite possible if that kid was applying to Tisch that he was rejected if his portfolio wasn't great. Academics is only half of the admissions decision to Tisch.

GPA and the difficulty of the courses you took are the most important things in the academic admissions decision. Which college are you interested in?

Hi chen, i am just wondering why you know you won't be a NAtional Merit- Finalist, and also what you mean by there appeals? thanks

By Chen (Chen) on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 - 05:47 pm: Edit

Oh. Arts and Science.

I won't be because of my Cs junior year. I wrote a letter to appeal their decision, but I didn't explain why I received those Cs junior year...I just asked them to reconsider their decision and look at my first quarter senior grades. I doubt they're going to do a thing though. *sigh*

how many Cs disqualifies you from being a finalist? (im in the same situation and i didnt know about this)

By Chen (Chen) on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 08:11 pm: Edit

I guess my chances must be hard because of those Cs :/

I know you can get 1 and still move on because I've heard of that happening, but the rest of your record really has to be pretty stellar. I'm not sure if that 1 is from a semester or year grade tho. If you're a semifinalist from last year, you're a finalist now, but if you're in the round to be considered next year, try and keep up a good record until then and don't be disappointed when they send you a rejection letter. I don't think they consider things hollistically like college but rather on a strictly grade basis.
