I REALLY want to go to wash u and double major in PNP (psych-neuroscience-philosophy) and dance. I feel that my chances for admission are not great(30 ACT, 7/300 rank, but I've taken all of my classes as honors or AP when available). But I have been performing with preprofessional ballet companies for the past two years and have been in community service organizations, etc. My question is, will they be apt to accept me considering my plans to major in dance and my experience in ballet? I have the impression that this is not a common choice of major, and minorities (beyond the ethnic sense) seem to be positive when it comes to college admissions. What do you guys think?

i was accepted ED1 w/ a 1420, student govt, piano/orch, etc, with an intended bio major dance minor. i talked about dancing for 13 yrs all throughout my interview and i was lucky enough to have a dance minor student as my interviewer. i also wrote my essay about it...i'm asian so i think that also helped b/c there arent many asian ballerinas out there. you seem like you would have a pretty good chance of getting in since your rank is so high, but your ACT is a little low. you should also keep in contact with the admissions people :)

TXgal86,
what do you know about the ballet program at washu? I just got back from a ballet audition somewhere else, and I wanted to compare the two if I could. How often is ballet offered? And what kind of performance opportunities are there? I've heard it's a respectable program, but I haven't seen anything firsthand. If I'm accepted I'll make a trip and take as many dance classes as I can.

Ballerina - I'm a freshman at Wash U now. Our stats in high school are pretty similar, but I applied ED. I don't know anything about the ballet program, but I do know that they more actively recruit people who want to major in something "obscure" than a popular one, such as pre-med. You probably have a better chance if anything. A couple other people I know are in various dance classes (not ballet), and they said they are excellent. I am not sure if there is an actual Ballet Major, but I do know that you can create your own major if you take the right amount of credits, sign the right forms, etc. It is not too difficult to do something like that, which is a definite plus. BTW, I know a girl who is in the PNP program, and she likes it a lot, despite the relatively intensive work load.

thanks for the feedback, jcool. it's especially interesting how you can create your own major. this just adds to my long list of positives about wash u.
