Hey! I'm in the middle (well, actually it's nearing the end now, isn't it...) of the college application process and I'm looking at my safety schools. I've applied and been accepted to University of Iowa (woohoo! jk, jk) and I'm looking for some other sort of interesting, off the wall, unique college. Warren Wilson is the ONLY college that caught my attention with mailings. It seems it is an extremely socialistic college where everyone is required to work a certain numbers of hours a week and they produce their own food and stuff. It really appeals to me (kind of the same way girl or boy scout camp appeals, I think) and I'm strongly considering applying. Does anyone know anything about this college? Is it a joke, or is it actually an environmentally minded college with strong concern about the international situation? (they have a major in pre-peace corps...isn't that interesting?) I guess I'm just trying to see if there's anyone out there who knows if this college would be worthwhile or if it is a bunch of east coast kids transplanted to NC to screw around for 4 years and pretend that socialism is possible. I'm a female from Iowa with a 33 ACT and taking the strongest schedule my school offers. 3 AP's, all my school has to offer. Band, Varsity two sport athlete, captain of one. I'm also applying to Bryn Mawr College, Haverford, U of Chicago, Grinnell College, and Kenyon College. What do you think? Would Warren-Wilson be a good safety school for me? Would I get a worthwhile education there?

my friend goes there and really enjoys it. from what i gather from him, it's a hugely 'hippie' school. lots of vegans/vegetarians/bra burners. he takes his schoolwork as sort of a joke. the work? yes, he is always working, but i'm not sure how worthwhile he considers it. oh, and my friend is definitely not your typical hippie.. nor preppy kid.. he kind of defies classification into stereotypes, but my point is, if you tend to be preppy, you might not be happy there.
