Looks really good to me, but what do I know? Nothing's ever a sure thing.

Basically, if you have an A- or B+ average, an SAT score that lies in the range, and some ECs, you have a very good shot. It doesn't seem like many current Wash U students hang around here :(

Okay, fine. I was accepted ED to Wash U. Although I know a lot about the college process, I just want to say that I am not a Wash U admissions counselor, so thus it may be different.

I say you have a fair chance. It's good that you've expressed interest in the school. It would be also be great if you had an interview. Your academic stats are decent. They just fall within Wash's range, although on the lower side. You didn't mention a class rank. I think 90+% of admitted students were in the top 10%, and another 65% in the top 5%.

Your EC's are good, perhaps better than average. If you have an interest in science, as it seems above, I would express it. Wash U is very interetsted in your leadership of your clubs.

Overall, I'd say that you are a qualified candidate. But in the Wash U applicant pool, you don't stand out too much, because everyone else is qualified. Wash U is getting to be uber-competitive to get in, with all the name recognition they are starting to get. Your one advantage is that you have expressed an interest in the school. But as Wash is getting more and more qualified applicants, many of which are choosing it over Ivy League Schools. It certainly is not an Ivy safety anymore. I do not know how much of part this interest will play.

I suggest that you have some other schools in mind, because college admissions these days are crazy. However, do not give up on Wash U because you still have a fair shot. Just dont make it up to be your dream school and that you will accept nothing less.

thanks for that great post. yeah ive applied to a few different places, and im all ready in my safety school.

my research experience is a little different mainly because we are a group of ten kids in the school to do this research. I stand out a little more though, because in the summer i came in to learn everything on my own accord. but the real thing is is that at first my teacher couldnt let me in the group, but then she offered me a place after seeing my work during the summer. i incorporated this into my application. also, im going to try to interview.

btw, my school doesnt rank.

again, thank you both for replying. if anyone else wants to add, please do so.

I am reading my post now, and it is giving off a negative vibe. I think that you are qualified to get in, but unfortunately in the college process today, that is not enough.

Take Care.

my sister is currently at WashU so i might no a little. i think you have good grades, ecs, shown interest, etc. but your ACT score might be a little low, but i'm not sure what a 30 is equal to in terms of SATs-3 years ago my sister got in w/ a 1420, NOT top 10%, and pretty good ECs, but she also had "connections" i still think you have a pretty good chance of getting it.

By Bobbyh (Bobbyh) on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 12:24 am: Edit

apparently my counselor has connections with washu, but i dont know how true that is. unfortunately, there are about 5 others who are applying to washu from my school. they are all good candidates, but i think only one of them has shown interest. i dont know how much that would affect it.

Bobyyh, i didn't mean my sister's GC had connections or anything like that, instead she got a letter of recommendation from one of my dad;s frieds, who is tight with the dean of admissions, so he sends his letter of recommendation straight to the Dean rather than through the admissions office

3 years ago was a lot less competitive than it is now. I asked WUSTL if alumni interviews were still available, and they aren't :(

By Mafmaf22 (Mafmaf22) on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 03:00 pm: Edit

Chen you are sooo wrong! Alumni interviews are definitely available. I had my alumni interview (I'm in NJ) last week, and my friend also had one last week with a different alumni from WASHU. So they are still available

By Chen (Chen) on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 03:07 pm: Edit

lmao. just the way you said that made me laugh. anyway, i e-mailed them. ASKING for an alumni interview is too late :( but yep, it's not too late to have one!
