Chances at Michigan - Ann Arbor?

Korean-American student at a pretty well known public high school in Northern New Jersey.

SAT I: 1380

High School - 2nd Decile Ranking of approximately 380 students (School only goes by 10%, 20% and so on. I'm technically top 15% but that probably won't show on the record). High Honor Roll Student (Took mostly Honors and AP)

GPA: Weighted: 4.0327, Unweighted: 3.6502

AP Courses: US History - 4, Physics B - 2

Senior Schedule
AP Advanced Biology
AP Calculus AB
AP English Literature
AP Latin
AP Psychology
Chamber Orchestra - Concertmaster

#Numbers Correspond to Grade Year Commited to the Event#
Extracurriculars (In School)

Cultural Diversity Asian Festival Event (Member: 9, 11, 12: Possible Leader)

I also was heavily involved with various chamber groups with orchestra peers. As first violinist for nearly all of the formed groups, I had a great time performing for various community service events since my sophomore year throughout my town and sometimes to other local towns. Total time commited to these activities is well over 150 hours.

MSM Philharmonic Orchestra (Best in the Pre-College Division: 1st Violin 7th Chair)
Region I High School Orchestra (Member: 10, 1st Violin 7th Chair)
Global Ministries Youth Anti-Racism Dialogue (Participant: 10)(This event took place at a local Windham hotel in Newark, NJ. Peers from across the country came together to discuss racial issues in today's society. I was lucky enough to have been selected by a church youth pastor to attend this event).

Community Service Activities
Valley Hospital Junior Volunteer Services: 150+ Hours (Since Soph Year)
Church Mission Trips To Le Pan, Mexico: Well over 300 Hours (Member: 10, 11)
West Bergen Mental Health Center's Center for Children and Youth Aspergers Related Services (Intern: Since June of this summer) Will complete more than 150+ hours by the time I submit my app.

I want to major in psych. UMich's undergrad psych program is one of the best in the US.

OK. All Comments Accepted.

I say 75-80% chance you're in.

Class rank is probably your weakest link. However, your SAT score, GPA, and activities make up for it.

Did you apply yet?

How are your essays and recommendations?

I had similar stats - 4.7 W, 3.7 UW, but I got a 1270 SAT. I applied in October, and was deferred on Dec 19th. Nice EC's, but I don't know how UMich weighs EC's with their new scale. Oh, i was ranked 24/419 (6%)

By Chen (Chen) on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 - 09:27 pm: Edit

Well, I know one person was rejected with those stats in my school. Your ECs are impressive...but it's not a 75% chance in my eye.

I bet you're in, I got in with a lot lower SATs out of state. Yet, there have been some people who got deferred, that I thought would definitley get in. I guess this new admissions process they has less focus on the numbers.

By Rohit_Sn (Rohit_Sn) on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 - 01:09 am: Edit

Thank you. What are you planning on majoring in? I'm keen on comp science or aerospace. I heard college of engneering is really competitive

By K516 (K516) on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 - 02:08 am: Edit

i think you have a good chance as well, since stuff like Intel ISEF is amazing merit. But please make your own thread if you don't mind.

By Rohit_Sn (Rohit_Sn) on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 - 06:16 am: Edit

Sorry the thread seemed kind of generic. So I just jumped in. Anyway you should get in too with your sat scores and other stuff.
Good luck with your admissions
