8% acceptance rate. pretty tough, but I do get the impression that they WL a lot of people.

are you serious? i think that's kinda low. overall, they're 24%...so it depends on the ED class.

it not 8. Even Harvard isn't 8...please. It says it is 37% in the fiske guide. That sounds more accurate to me. My fiske guide is a year old though (believe me, it won't have dropped 29% in one year...PERHAPS a single percent)

its either 22 or 23% RD and 29% ED. im pretty sure b/c ive looked it up in several guides hehe. it's really low b/c a lot of people apply just because they got a lot of mail from wash u.

Sorry, I'm not sure where I got 8%. It looked like such the right number. 23% is ringing a bell for me tho.

Wash U acceptance rates:
Early: 28% (1/3 of the incoming class is ED)
Regular: 22% (2/3 of the incoming class is RD)
Total: 24% (This was for the Class of 2007. I anticipate it will be even lower for the Class of 2008 because Wash U is gaining a lot of popularity and name recognition. US News and World Reports lists it as one of the hot schools of 2004.)
Wash U is extremely difficult to get into now due to the huge rise in applications. Last year, they got 22,000 applications total, and only 1500 or so spots in the freshman class. However, the acceptance rate is a little higher due to the fairly low yield, 25% of the class accept. Wash U waitlists another 2,000 or so applicants, but it is the experience of my family and friends that they don't accept a lot of people off of the waitlist, because as I stated above, Wash U tends to overaccept.
Good luck to all.

"22,000" Are you freakin kiddin me?!?! What the $&@> !!! Thats so much. Now I'm getting worried. Are most of those 22,000 applicants from mid-west or northeast? (I'm asking because I'm a yankee, and competition uphere is fierce)

No, I'm serious. Out of all the private universitities in the US, Wash U has one of the highest application totals. This attributes to their aggresive advertising of the school, primarily through the mail.
Now with regards to the geographics, I believe that many of the applicants are from the midwest. Wash U has an amazing reputation in that area. However, they are getting more and more name recognition and as a result are getting a ton of applications from New York and New Jersey. Besides students from the St. Louis and Chicago areas, the next greatest amount of students hail from NY and NJ. Wash U is becoming a truly "national" university.

Wash U mailed relentlessly. My D had pretty good scores and she never sent them anything and still received mail by the ton. They're working very very hard to boost their applicant pool.
As a just-below HYPSM school, it's competing with the lower Ivies and schools like Northwestern, U of Chicago, Duke, etc.
I suspect that admittance rate this year is going to be worse than it was last year.
