i was just wondering how difficult it was to get accepted into this program?
For the audition : what do they mean by the fact that you need a "musical ear?" and how good to you have to be on your instrument?
I think my academics are somewhat up to par, (i hope) well except my psat scores, but i can improve those up to 1300 hopefully. but my music abilities are definately lacking.
I've been playing the violin for 7 years, but i am a horrible player and have the skills of someone whose played for 2 years. The violin never really interested me it was just something i did casually. I just started playing guitar and i swear my violin and guitar skills are equal and i really enjoy playing the guitar. I have basic music reading abilities and playing skills. I'm afraid that i won't get accepted becuase of this.
I am currently a junior
-3.75 unweighted GPA, 4.4 weighted
-1160 on pstas i havent taken the sats yet. i willdo some major studying and hope fora 1300.
-I'm in all GT classes which is above honors
-taken 5 credits in spanish
-Government & Politics AP
-U.S. Hisotry AP
-Varisty Tennis 3 years
-Afterschool orchstra 3 years
-but only 2 music credits (strings 1, guitar 1)
-I'm taking independent research which is an honors program class and having the music industry as my focus.
-Senior year I will have an internship at a record label/recording studio in D.C.
I'm just wondering if I should still consider this as a major or if i should give up the whole idea while theres still time.
Do they really base acceptance 50% academics and 50% musical ablilites?
is there any other way i could get in without applying for this major? like go undecided then switch in, or apply at the indvidualized study school? I dont want to do that clive davis thing however.
I'm really interested in the business aspect of the music industry. And I do enjoy playing music as a hobby, but I'm not good in any means.
Or would it be better to major in business and just take music business electives and such?
yeah this is a long entry witha bunch of questions,i hope someone could help answer something... thanks

Music business is a competitive program. Here's what the Admissions office says about the difference between it and Clive Davis program:
"Music Business students pursue a Bachelor of Music in a 4-fold curriculum rooted in music business, liberal arts, music theory, history, technology, and performance, and Stern business. Students must have a strong music background and audition on instrument or voice. The Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music leads to a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a curriculum designed to educate students in all aspects of contemporary recorded music with a special focus on the art of identifying musical talent within a complex range of recorded music technologies. The majority of students do have a musical background, although this is not a requirement for the program."
You get a B. of Music so you must be a strong music student in order to handle the heavy music courseload. Clive Davis may be more what you're looking for but that program is only in its second year and only accepts around 25 kids/yr. It's doubtful that you'd be able to take music business electives. Most majors such as that reserve their classes for majors. It might be worth your while to call Admissions and discuss this with someone there.
