anyone applying here? i did, i only went for a day (saturday, no tours or anything) ..i really liked it. anyone have any comments on it?

By Andrey1225 (Andrey1225) on Monday, January 05, 2004 - 07:25 pm: Edit

i won a writing contest sponsored by the school and had the vice president of something or other give me a tour of the campus and try to recruit me....needless to say i didn't apply. but the campus and the area surrounding it are nice, although they're more suburban and there doesn't seem to be as much to do as there would be at a place like Westwood (UCLA). one of my parent's friends who is getting me an internship with Beckman Coulter (huge biotech company if you've never heard of it) over the summer got a BS in chemistry there. He said it's not a good school if you're an intellectual....kids would show up in pajamas to class and really aren't motivated. but the degree is fairly respected if you live in southern california....probably on the same level as UC Riverside so it's a good school. mostly known for their film/communications program though they have good premed and sciences programs as well as good humanities. oh, and the school is generous with financial aid, especially if you're an over qualified applicant. sorry, my information isnt really specific but it's what i've heard and seen about the school...

Hey John congrats man. I'm going to apply to Chapman for film production next year. What stats do you have? What stats would I need to get me in? Any more info about it would be great.

By Runnowdielater (Runnowdielater) on Tuesday, March 02, 2004 - 11:48 pm: Edit

I got into Chapman's film program as well. It's a lot harder to get into then I thought, lots of writing pieces, interviews, etc. According to one of the admissions officers they had 600 film applicants for 100 spots (17% acceptance rate), so it's getting competitive, almost as hard as USC (around 10% acceptance rate).

here are my stats if you're interested:

weighted GPA: 3.85
SAT I: 1360

not much for extracurriculars, just cross country and track, french club, church youth group

I think a major key in getting in is showing a lot of interest in the school. I visited the school twice, had an official campus tour, official interview, and on the phone interview I told them that Chapman was my number 1 choice.

Good luck Moneymoney, and congratulations John and Mexor

I'm sure not many people applied to Chapman........but their admissions decisions are available online thru the application status option......mine still says under review tho but several of my friends have gotten in already. Has anyone gotten a rejection online?

I did not know Chapman had an online option available, but I checked and they send you an email and my sister was accepted.

alright, so i had a 1430 and a 4.5 weighted / 4.0 unweighted GPA. Lots of ECs...Accepted to USC and UCLA, rejected to chapman...what happened here?

By Azteca199 (Azteca199) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 08:47 pm: Edit

maybe they thought you only looked to them as a safety school. If you seriously want to attend then I would call. Chapman offered my sister, thus far, 9,000 in merit aid, will probably give more. Her scores were not nearly as impressive as yours but, like I said maybe they thought they were your safety since your scores are way above their average.

I'm going to apply here! Thanks for all the advice. I'm planning on visiting this summer or early fall.

This school meets all of my criteria: Creative Writing Major, study abroad to Australia, and Latin and Linguistic electives. Yay!

Andrey1225, not to burst your bubble or anything but many students go to school in their pajamas! My friend once took me to her classes at USC and she was falling asleep on this guy's arm. I also found many of the students eating breakfast during the lecture!

Also, President Bush went to his Harvard classes looking like he just rolled out of bed (according to his classmate).

I don't think that the actions of a few students should damage the reputation of the school or keep you from applying.

A friend of mine is going there next year and from what I know Chapman is a really good college choice in several ways. First of all, it's located in Orange County, which is a safe and beautiful place to live. Orange County is said to be one of the least stressful places to live in the US.

Secondly, they're good with financial aid. They meet 100% financial need and they aren't too heavy on loans.

Third, most of their dorms (or maybe it's all) have semi-private bathrooms.

In terms of academics, Chapman is known for their film school and other majors such as communications.

If only they had offered my major, I would have definitely enrolled at this university without any hesistation.
