UMIch does not look at SAT II's at all, so don't stress too much over that.
Your SAT is a little low for an engineering student. I dunno how much they will consider your recent immigration to your verbal score.
But that shouldn't stop you from trying
Good luck.

Thanks Jin... I have one correction to my first message - UMich minimum TOEFL req is 230, not 250.

Check your messages on your topic ;)
Yes, applying late hurts, especially since you are International. Engineering gets REALLY competitive

Your SAT score and ACT are rather low like Jin said. You might want to consider retaking that instead of your SATIIs. They will probably give you some leverage for only being in the States for 5 years. You may want to try and ask a counselor to write a statement about this, or show them your official documents, or have a teacher include it in his recommendation.

I see, but I am pretty much done with SAT1 now. I 'hinted' the # of years in my essays but I'm not sure if my counselor/teachers noted that in recs. I gave them statements about me to refer to though. Anyways, thanks for your comments.
One more question: are essays important at all? B/c Mich is a public school and that admission calculator thing (which no longer exists) from last year showed that the essays are not important. I mean, three essays + one optional essay for a public school? I did great b/c mine was modeled after my Stanford essays, so they would definitely help my chances.

Supposedly, they made the essays much more important >.>
I sent an optional one too, but I really don't know how much they factor into admission.

it's not 4 essays... it's 2 250 word short answer questions and a 1 500 word essay... then there is an optional essay (usually for a resume).

OK... Few more responses would be nice.

hehe, Response from a bison----can u tell me your GPA in our schools system- I wanaa get an idea of what my rank is. Other than that, U have a 50-50 chance of getting in, everything in the average range. When did u apply?...i ahve almost similar stats-760m-570v: 3.7, 760'710'680, applied mid NOV and havent heard anything yet.

Everyone told me I just need to subtract 1 from my gpa in 5.0 scale, so my weighted becomes 5.12->4.12 and uw 4.75->3.75. I applied around 12/10, which is bad...
By Becks777 (Becks777) on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 - 02:21 pm: Edit
hmmm...that makes sense.....and did u get your transcripts sent before holidays...coz i think they do it in batches
By Becks777 (Becks777) on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 - 02:23 pm: Edit
On my UIUC application: it says " deferred, manual review required", do u get the same thing?what does it mean?
By Northwestern9 (Northwestern9) on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 - 03:33 pm: Edit
School sent EVERYTHING on 12/10. Is that your result? I don't know what you're talking about...
