Hey I applied to UMich LSA earlier this month, and I was wondering something about the tuition. I know total costs end up being like $17000 for in-state and $34000 for out-of-state, but if you're from out of state and you attend Michigan for a certain period of time, do you get to pay the in-state tuition, since you have become a legal resident of the state?

it depends on where your parents live..i think but i am not sure

You can't become in-state by attending school there. You'd need to work full time w/o attending for at least a year, and establish ties to the state. Otherwise, everyone would be in-state eventually. You should be able to get details of how to establish residency from the website.

Like Ifyoucould and Garland both said, enrolling at the university doesn't mean you're instate. If you are dependant on your parents to pay your tuition, they will pay out-of-state fees. If you get a job and are independent, you can apply for residency and receive the in-state price.

what if you bought/rented a house or an apartment there? Then are you qualified as in state?

America would have been such a better place had there was no state system here!
