By Averageasian (Averageasian) on Sunday, November 02, 2003 - 07:08 pm: Edit

Hello, I appreciate the evaluation.

Here are my stats: (for LSA; Pre-business)
-580 Verbal; 720 Math (retaking in Dec to improve Verbal)
-Out-of-State(FL)
-Asian(citizenship in China-this help/hurt me?)
-3.46 unweighted GPA
-600+ community service hours in 2 years(volunteer of the year)
-Pretty good EC's
-Good Essays
-Application sent Nov 1
-Decent recommendations
-Not a legacy or athlete

I know it's average according to the Princeton Review charts. Is there anything you think i should do at this point to improve my chances? Other schools im applying to are University of Texas-Austin and University of Florida. I plan on getting my BBA and possibly an MBA from a pretty good business school. Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks again!

Hey there I'm applying to U of M, out of state (IL), with about the same stats as you. I;d say it'll be very tough for the both of us to get in, simply becasue out of staters need particularly high grades and scores etc. im not sure as though theres a whole lot you can do now but just wait and see. they put a lot of emphasis on the essays and such this year so if yours are good i guess ya never know? anyways good luck, when u get your response from them post it.

Yeah, i put a great effort into my essays. Had all my past english teachers tear my drafts apart word by word. It took me 3 weeks to hammer out the 2 short answers and 2 essays (did the optional).

Hope for the best, plan for the worst...

im from ohio, does that help at all?

By Jinhamasaki (Jinhamasaki) on Monday, December 29, 2003 - 06:23 pm: Edit

Averageasian > I had a 1270, 28 ACT, 3.7 UW (4.71 W) and I got deferred. I live in Florida too (And I am Asian!, lol)! I sent my app on Oct 26th, and I also wrote the optional essay. I don't have as many community service hours as you, though. I was doing pharmacy, though. Good luck!

(If you get in I will be extremely jealous!)

any chance for Honors College?

By Subparasian (Subparasian) on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 - 12:29 am: Edit

No chances, Umich only accepts 1600, 4.0 UW(or 5.0 Weighted), 800s on every SATII test(including ancient hebrew, stratified international ecnomics, and advanced atomic physics) Nobel prize winners, published college essays or Pulitzer prizes, and recommendations from Einstein, Ghandi, or George Washington.

If you're lacking on any of these REQUIREMENTS, you can make it for it with Academy Awards, the cure for cancer, or perhaps they might accept you if you've on the moon or in space.

Good luck with it!

/sarcasm off

You're in. Honors? in. I'll be surprised if you get turned down for a full ride or somewhere close to that.

Err if he doesn't apply soon...he's going to have some competition

Despite applying late, they will create a spot if they see this applicant. No way are they going to deny an extraordinary student because they don't have room...

matthias

u have a very nice chance of getting in and i think u will get into honors college. from what i heard, it is hard tho. :P

By Mitwannabe (Mitwannabe) on Friday, January 02, 2004 - 06:24 am: Edit

for honors, is there such a thing as doing like honors in aerospace engineering, cuz i sent in a 1480 sat, but my dec scores were 1560, and i got 800/800/800 sat2 which came with the 1480, if i get in with the 1480, will they still consider me for honors with my new sat score despite not having setn it in to them?
