I've noticed that quite a few people have gotten this award. Can the people who have tell me how they got it, in what grade they got it, and who and what determines the recipient?
Thanks a ton...

My friend won the WASH U book award at the end of his jr year in high school. I believe it takes a recommendation from a teacher at school to get it, though you're not "supposed" to know that you're in the running for it until you get it.
By the way, my friend is a brilliant student in the Math-Science-Technology magnet at the duPont Manual High School, a public school in Louisville, Kentucky. He had a 33 ACT, and is a national merit semifinalist. He also has like a 3.85 GPA (We don't weight grades in our school district) and has taken like 10 AP courses in high school.

I received the book award, and even went up to Wash U. one weekend (they paid for my airfare from New Orleans and the taxi and everything) for a book award dinner and reception. I'm applying to Wash U. RD (brief stats: 3.8-4.0 UW GPA, 1400 SAT, 31 ACT, plenty of good ECs, 7 total APs before graduation, plenty of awards, etc). Does the fact that I got a book award and that I've been in contact with them so much (I actually spoke with admissions people during the Book Award Weekend) help my chances any?
