opinions anyone?
| By Mike (Mike) on Friday, December 13, 2002 - 04:59 pm: Edit |
I live near there and know lot of grads. Fairly conservative, students not overly involved in community, Salem is a very boring conservative govenment dominated town. Good poly sci dept. with great intern opportunities in govenrment.
Law school used to be far and away the best in state but lately State U and Lewis and Clark students have been passing the Bar exam better.
Some student like it and feel their education was good and others seem to be legacies who just slide by.
Anything you wanted to know?

How is Salem compared to Eugene & Portland?
| By Mike (Mike) on Saturday, December 14, 2002 - 11:36 pm: Edit |
Boring boring. Portland is a real city and Eugene has some life but Salem has little entertainment or night life or good food. Only thing good is it is about an hour from sking and an hour from the ocean. But then the other tow are only a little further to the beach and as close to sking and the sking is much better an hour from Portland

True, the city is boring, but you have to realize that it's the capital of OR so it's got all these govt buildings around; great job opportunities.
I received an all-paid 3-day visit to the campus and I loved it. The only thing I didn't like about the school is that it's right in Oregon and it's way too close to home for me. I'm originally from California so having lived here for already close to 5 years, I'm getting sick of the rain and cold. Other than that, the school is just wonderful and if it were located anywhere other than in OR, it would've been my first choice school.

I don't mind rain but it is way to close to home. actually my top two are UPS even more rain and Whitman colder dryer. Warning job opps are bad in state government at the moment as OR's economy is in bigger trouble then CA's

Does Willamette's small size take away from the campus social scene? Everything seems great about it; the setting, cirriculum, study abroad, but i'm just worried having grown up in the SF bay area it will seem a bit bland. Opinions?

Salem is indeed bland but the campus less so. Lots of out of staters. Greeks are very importnt in social life

I'm from Oakland, CA, majoring in History. Looking forward to spending some time in Oregon where everything is green and there is no sales tax. You get a scholarship?
