You have a chance, but it might be tough. NYU acceptance is now under 25%. Your combined SAT puts you around the 25th percentile for admittance, which is not where you want to be. GPA is okay.
Try to play up journalism and writing experience, and do an good job on your essay.

Hey, I was just wondering if you could tell me my chances of getting into NYU. People tell me they really have no idea because my stats are a little weird.

You have decent prospects depending on which program you are applying to. Unfortunately, your GPA is not helping you. Do everything you can to get this semester's grades up.

umm ok anotherdad, both their gpas are not bad. I think you both have a good chance.
