Not much talk about Clemson on this board. I'm taking my son down for a visit in a couple weeks. (He's been accepted.)

Any thoughts about the place... in the context of an out-of-state engineering student?

How does Clemson compare with other publics? What is the reputation? Is it liberal or conservative? I don't know much of anything about the school.

I was going to go to UNC, but after my visit, I have changed my mind. I have been accepted at UNCG, ECU, UNCC, and Clemson, and I am down to Clemson and ECU. If anyone would like to share any information about the school, please do.

Lakers, you left a post in the UNC board... did you read what other people have posted? Anyway, sorry you didnt have a good experience. Clemson is a good school; unique school colors.

My son finally made up his mind and picked Clemson. He'll be going into engineering and turned down UMCP (honors), Virginia Tech (honors), Tulane (honors), CWRU, Boston U, Rose-Hulman, and Stevens.

If it were my choice, I'd have picked UMCP (in-state tuition) or Virginia Tech, but I think Clemson has a lot going for it. Beautiful campus; nice dorms; a good size (13,000 undergrads and 3,500 grad students); emphasis on undergrad teaching; excellent engineering co-op programs... especially international connections; a close working relationship with BMW, which has a nearby factory. Engineering is the dominant major, but there's a 50-50 gender balance.

Clemson is the official school of inbred rednecks. I would advise to stay away from it. The town is crappy and dead when the students leave. I live here, so I know. Shoot me.
