Anyone know anything about this school, besides the party rep from way back?

Apparently it is in a gorgeous area, with trees and streams throughout the campus. It has a good business and engineering program although not the most highly ranked as compared to Cal Poly SLO, yet still reputible. I'd look into the school. It has a laid back atmosphere, great weather, nice people, and a college town feel.

Well, coming from someone who has lived in Chico my whole life, it is a good option if you're looking at CSU-type schools and live in-state. The campus is very nice, Big Chico Creek runs through it, and being in Chico there are always trees everywhere. My favorite thing about the campus is the way the campus and town are worked into each other. Chico is as good of a college town as you could ask for, lots of collge hang outs, very laid back people in general, friendly, etc. Also, Bidwell Park, which runs from campus through town and into the foothills is the 3rd largest municipal park in the country, and considering that it's for a town of about 100,000, that's pretty impressive. Biking is awesome. The town is about 1.5 hours from Sacramento, 3 hours from SF, 3 hours from Lake Tahoe, so you will need a car for those trips. Chico is certainly still a big party school, but the town and university have done a lot to shut down 2 of the 3 big dates. St. Patrick's day is now always during spring break, halloween is virtually nothing with the huge cop presence. The big (think 15-20 thousand person) labor day inner tube float on the Sacrament River is still around. I think that if you are happy with a state college, especially if you are interested in engineering, business, or student newsapaper, Chico State is an awesome option. Hope this helps.

Hey thanks for responding. That definitely helps. I've done some other research too since my post and I think Chico sounds fine.
