Great engineering program! I know lots of people who go there and absolutely love it, especially its location - so close to both UNC-CH and Duke. There are lots of opportunities to intermingle with the other campuses. The ACC is an awesome conference for basketball.

"West Raleigh Tech." Raleigh is a typical boring state capital.

Just joking. A good school, but very spread out campus with lots of traffic runing through it.

Its great for engineering, just alright for everything else. The campus is ugly its just all brick. The only high light of the campus is Centinnial(sp) Campus its very modern.

By Faithy1 (Faithy1) on Friday, April 09, 2004 - 06:32 pm: Edit

yes oos is...out of state. sorry! do you know where I can find the stats for acceptance % for the oos students. Are you going to ncs or unc?

By Whitreturnsagai (Whitreturnsagai) on Saturday, April 10, 2004 - 02:57 pm: Edit

not going to unc-ch but may go to nc st...not sure about out of state acceptance rate...lemme check

By Whitreturnsagai (Whitreturnsagai) on Monday, April 12, 2004 - 05:54 pm: Edit

well...cant seem to find it but if overall acceptance is around 60% and probably 70% of those applicants are in state...its probably about a 40-45% acceptance rate out of state depending on program...thats my best guess...ill let you know if i find it though...bottom line...out of state is very tough

im in becton hall...so far...im going to call and see if i can get an a/c hall since i had my form in early...anyone else know where youll be staying?

By Buckojackson (Buckojackson) on Saturday, July 17, 2004 - 08:16 pm: Edit

heyhey! ill be at Watauga hall. im a trasnferring sophomore, almost junior. Did you ever get your hall changed? The housing lady that answers when you call is awesome...I called twice in 2 days, she not only remembered my name but suggested a better hall for me and sort of talked me through where she was putting me.

Im going to the transfer orientation on the 28th, i think it is.

Im hyped...ready for it to start.

By Julius (Julius) on Sunday, July 18, 2004 - 10:17 pm: Edit

I'm also assigned to Becton.

By Buckojackson (Buckojackson) on Monday, July 19, 2004 - 12:35 am: Edit

Uh oh...hopethe no-AC situation works out okay with you two. I think they are renovating it after this Fall anyway.

By Whitreturnsagai (Whitreturnsagai) on Monday, July 19, 2004 - 12:46 am: Edit

will the lady change my hall assignment do you think?

By Buckojackson (Buckojackson) on Monday, July 19, 2004 - 01:48 am: Edit

Hell yeah, well there's a possibility. She seems super flexible IF there's availability in another dorm. As for availablility, I have no idea. It doesn't hurt to try.

Personally, I'd call and politely ask. "Will I be moved again anytime before move-in day?"

Say she says no.

"I was wondering if it's at all possible to be switched to a dorm with AC?"

yadda yadda.

By Julius (Julius) on Monday, July 19, 2004 - 04:17 pm: Edit

Well Avant Ferry hasn't had as many people sign up as projected; you could easily get transfered there. Either way, they are renovating the Quad, so you will be transferred somewhere else after the first semester.

By Buckojackson (Buckojackson) on Monday, July 19, 2004 - 04:48 pm: Edit

Yeah I heard that Avent Ferry is housing freshmen this year.

By Whitreturnsagai (Whitreturnsagai) on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 - 01:45 pm: Edit

has anybody lived in avent ferry before that can tell me what it's like and how convenient it is or isnt to get to rest of campus?

Anyone heading to Watauga hall? :D

By Whitreturnsagai (Whitreturnsagai) on Sunday, July 25, 2004 - 12:24 am: Edit

not me...i wish i was...anybody going to orientation on mon and tues this week?

By Buckojackson (Buckojackson) on Sunday, July 25, 2004 - 01:23 am: Edit

Im going to transfer orientation on wednesday. I heard that even though im late for registering, the 28th is a good day to register late because people get dropped for not paying on the 27th.

They make us transfers wait until jlu 7th or july 28th to register, which are the orientation days.

I actually was placed in avent ferry for this fall, but they changed me to watauga. Im happy with it.

If you're unhappy with avent, it wouldnt hurt to call and see if another hall has openings. All they can do is say no. :)

By Whitreturnsagai (Whitreturnsagai) on Sunday, July 25, 2004 - 10:28 am: Edit

ive called a few times and asked but ill try again this week...

By Buckojackson (Buckojackson) on Sunday, July 25, 2004 - 03:39 pm: Edit

Out of curiosity, what do they say when you ask?

By Buckojackson (Buckojackson) on Thursday, July 29, 2004 - 08:16 pm: Edit

Transfer orientation was cool...ready for state. ;)

hey buckojackson
I ( outofstate) am planning to transfer to NCstate from University of Arkansas, Fayetteville (Honors College). Would you recommend transferring after sophomore year or freshman year? I am a comp engr major. I dont know if they need SAT scores. I got 1260. I am an Asian and recently immigrated to America.
What kind of GPA do they need? Would appreciate it if you could give me some more info.

By Buckojackson (Buckojackson) on Sunday, August 01, 2004 - 12:03 am: Edit

Hey frustrated...my future roommate is a Chinese student himself, coming here straight from China.

SAT scores are typically needed if you will be transferring in as a sophomore or freshman, but not junior.

I also do know that the Comp Sci program is fairly hard to get into. Try calling the admissions people and asking.

As for when I recommend transferring, that is all up to you, friend!

By Frustrated24 (Frustrated24) on Sunday, August 01, 2004 - 03:37 pm: Edit

Hey Thanx for the info. Are you from out of state? Do their finaid consist mostly of loans?

By Buckojackson (Buckojackson) on Sunday, August 01, 2004 - 04:11 pm: Edit

No, I'm in-state. FinAid consists of the normal array of things -- loans, help for those with low income, and academic scholarships.

By Frustrated24 (Frustrated24) on Sunday, August 01, 2004 - 05:01 pm: Edit

Are there any scholarships for transfer students?

By Buckojackson (Buckojackson) on Sunday, August 01, 2004 - 05:31 pm: Edit

Good question -- I'm not sure. Here's the link to State's finaid site:
