I have two parents who are both Davidson grads and my mom got a 1200 first try which is now equal to a modern 1400. I'm not sure what my dad had. You have excellent credentials, but you won't likely make it because of your SAT score. No matter how many times you take the SAT, the first one will still count a lot. If it were a 1280 or even a 1250 and you got a 1400 next time, you might make it. However, an 1170 is too low. You will make Richmond, Bucknell, Lehigh, VT, and Gettysburg for sure. You stand a chance at Wake, a pretty good chance at UVA, and no chance at Swarthmore. I'm sure you are a worthy kid of Davidson and Swarthmore, and I'm sorry that you blew your SAT I first try, and I'm sorry that it actually matters because everyone can have a bad day.

Most colleges take the higher of the two. So I don't think he blew it at all. In fact, if he improves drastically it'll make him look good since it looks like he put forth the effort to improve. Plus, I'm sure colleges bear in mind that some people are just not good test takers. I know many people who have over 4.0 GPA's and SAT scores in the 1100s and 1200s who got into many TOP 25 COLLEGES.

the advice given above on the first SAT is not good advice. Pure BS. The colleges will look at the higher score. They will assume you were sick, had a bad hair day or something. They just want the higher score. So don't sweat it. Good luck

I transferred from a college prep magnet school in the city and in the past year, davidson has done a lot of HEAVY recruiting from our school. i am very impressed with davidson. they offered 6 people from my school full 4-year scholarships plus stipend for travel, books and all. they also begged them to visit davidson for a weekend to convince them to atten- and paid for all of their airline tickets, accommodations, etc. it was really nice! such a nice school...

lol pds doesn't know what he/she's talking about. your SAT may be low, but you have a decent shot at all of the places you apply. It doesn't matter what you got on your first SAT at all, they only take the highest combined sitting. Your SAT II's look a bit more promising though..I'm assuming you got 3 in the mid 600's?

Pds is a legit •••••••.

I think you have a really good shot at getting into Davidson. However, I think you will make the pool but there isn't anything that stands out about you right now. Most of your activities are just activities but your essays will be the difference maker in this case. You must stand out from your essay by emphasizing your character, values, and heart.

I don't know what your SAT II scores are but from the look of it, you're averaging 700 per SAT II. It's not not bad, but not spectacular. Good luck with your Davidson application though.
