Discus: What Are My Chances?: STANFORD What are chances? STANFORD!
By Hovigc (Hovigc) on Sunday, October 03, 2004 - 03:22 pm: Edit

Here are my stats:

Bio: Male, 17, born in US but Armenian was my first language and is spoken at home.

Note: 9th and 10th grade was a "regualar" high school (high honors both years). For 11th and 12th grade I was accepted to and went to a Math and Science Academy. There were only 50 students, no class rank, no GPA. All junior year courses were pretty advanced, more so than AP classes and for twelfth grade we are college freshmen and take courses at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

AP courses: World History, 4, 10th grade

College classes (currently taking): Calculus 1, Physics - Mechanics, Intro to Journalism

College classes (will take this year): Calculus 2, Calculus 3, Calculus 4, Physics - Electricity and Magnetism, Intro to Social Psych., Intro to Electricity and Comp. Engineering, Intro to Digital Circuitry and Comp. Engineering, Topics in International Politics, Elements of Writing.

PSAT: National Merit Candidate

SAT: 1520 (780M, 740V)
SATII: Writing 720, Physics (will take, 700+), Math IC 710, Math IIC (will take, 700+)

Class Rank: 3/369 (for 9th and 10th grades only)

GPA: N/A

Sports: Soccer (9th, 10th, JV), Volleyball (9th, 10th, 11th, Var.)

Extra-Curriculars:
Over 150 hours of Community Service,
National Honor Society,
National French/Language Honor Society,
Armenian Youth Federation (member: 9th, Vice President: 10th, President: 11th, 12th)
Served as Youth delegate to several Congressmen from Massachusetts for the Armenian Nat'l Committee of America (We discussed several key issues in legislation relevant to Armenia with the Congressmen)

Jobs: Worked over 18hrs/wk during 10th and 11th grades.

Other: My school requires a Senior Independent Study Project for which I will be learning Arabic. There's also all the other crap like Who's Who and all the High School Scholar stuff.

Also, I am undecided as to what my major will be but it is not going to definitely be a math, science, engineering one. How will choice of major affect admission?

Please tell me what you guys think are my chances for Stanford...Thanks
