your chances are up in the air - I know an in-stater who got in with a 3.9 and a 950. UW uses index numbers, so your SAT is a little low for not being a state resident. there's probably somewhere better you can go that won't cost as much as out-of-state tuition at UW - it's just like any other large state school.

thanks yeah im trying to improve my SAT

what is your unweighted GPA? UW doesn't use weighted ones. The index is 3/4 GPA and 1/4 test scores. UW doesn't care much about extra-curriculars. (at least for in-state).

my unweighted GPA is a 3.98...i got one B freshman year...can you figure out what the average number is for applicants using the index thing?

University of Washington is a great school and is becoming increasingly competitive for out of state students. Christinaspears I would only suggest that you bring your SAT up to 1200 in order to stay competitive w/ other Engineering majors as they will probably have simialr stats. But your GPA looks great and I'd say u are probably in based on your current stats but try to get your SATs up a little higher then u would be all set. UW is agreat school and I am glad u r considering it. Truly a steal in terms of great public universities in the US

alright thanks! yeah i totally agree...i went up there last summer and absolutely loved the campus!

btw i've heard u are also considering Cal Poly. I would have to say after visiting both campuses, Washington's is far superior to Cal Poly's. In my opinion, Cal Poly just looks like a really large high school, when I visited I didn't get a real sense of college. On the hand just looking at the architecture of the buildings at Washington you feel like you are on an elite or ivy league campus.

Hey Dontgouc....do you know if washington is a big commuter school? B/c one thing i like about cal poly is the whole "college town" thing...but is the atmosphere around UW like that or do alot of people leave the campus on weekends?

Christinaspears, I wouldn't worry too much about kids leaving on the weekends because of the size of the school. As an out of state student that attends UW, I have never had trouble finding people to hang out with on the weekends. Because UW is in the Seattle metro area there are kids who do "commute" to campus from the neighboring cities of Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, etc but in no way is Washington a commuter campus. There are always things to do on the weekends and you will never feel bored or left out. This was actually one of my concerns coming to U-DUB because I was afraid that some of the local kids would still hang out with their hs cliques but I was surprised to find that this is not true and that everyone is genuinely friendly and willing to make new friends. I hope you choose to go to UW, I know I am having an awesome time thus far (minus some rainy days here and there) hope to see you here soon.

alright thanks! I think UW is going to be my #1 choice....now i just got to work on getting in! oh yeah one more question...is the size of the campus and # of undergraduates intimidating when you first came in as a freshman because ive always gone to small schools and dont know how it will feel to go to a school that is 15 times the size of my high school.

For UW do you have to send in your transcript and score reports when you send your application in or do they not want those until after you have been accepted and tell them you're going there?
| By Christinaspears (Christinaspears) on Saturday, October 09, 2004 - 02:47 pm: Edit |
oh i was also wondering about that so i called the admissions people at UW and they said you need to send your score reports and transcripts....especially for people applying from out of state. Is it true that if you send your app earlier like oct/nov that you have a better chance at getting in because of the rolling admissions policy?
