By Dantrek (Dantrek) on Saturday, September 25, 2004 - 09:59 pm: Edit

I am a white male looking for advice on what schools you guys think I can get into, as well as the possibility of acceptance at my reach schools. Any other college recommendations would be appreciated. I want to go to the most competitive college I can get into, but have no delusions of grandeur.

Schools: The College of NJ (#1 choice)
Rutgers U
U of Maryland (sister went there)
Penn State
Villanova
George Washington

Reach Schools:
NYU
University of Virginia
University of Rochester

I am interested in studying industrial psychology.

Rank: 25/504 at competitive NJ public school
GPA: 4.22 weighted on a 4.6 scale
SAT 1: 1300 (V:620, M:680)

I have taken competitive courses.
Honors English all three years
A-, A-, B+
AP History 1 and 2
A, A (got a 4 on exam)
Science: Bio, Chem, Physics
A-, A, A-
Math: Algebra II, Geom, Pre-calc
B, A, A-
Spanish 1, 2 ,3
A, A-, B

I left out some elective courses and such that are prbably irrelevant.
I am taking 3 APs this year. Economics, Calc, and English

Activities:
Editor and Chief of school newspaper 3 yrs, 2 as chief
National Honors Society 2 yrs
National Honors Society of Journ 1 yr
Spanish Club 2 yrs
Chess Club 2 yrs
JSA 2 yrs
Octagon 1 yr
Awards in Geometry and Precalculus, as well as the enthusiastic reader award

I have also been volenteering my time at Habitat for Humanity this year

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can definately get into TCNJ and Rutgers... Also personally I don't think Rochester is a reach... I have a much lower weighted GPA(3.8/4 with highest person in class being 4.99/4)(but higher SAT scores- only by 100 though) and it is a reach/match for me... Are you saying its more of a reach due to the lack of competitive classes? I would say that you do lack in the sciences, but try taking every course a fourth year and don't drop any... For example, stick with spanish and social sciences, as well as english if you want to go into Psych.

DO YOU GUYS HAVE ANY OTHER SCHOOLS THAT YOU THINK I COULD GET INTO>

I WAS LOOKING AT LEHIGH

By Dantrek (Dantrek) on Saturday, October 02, 2004 - 04:17 pm: Edit

My dad wants me to do ED to TCNJ. Do you guys think I will have a problem getting into there regular admissions? I would like more options than just 1 school when I think I have potential at some other good schools.

I forgot to add that I am getting a rec from one of my teachers, who is an NYU graduate. Will that improve my chances.

Also, would I be a fit at Lehigh.

No, you will not have a problem getting into TCNJ regular...you will even get some scholarship money

By Kathiep (Kathiep) on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 07:46 am: Edit

I think you have a shot at Lehigh. They are also known for generous financial aid, both need based and merit. Your SAT scores are in their range: verbal 570 - 660, math 620 - 710. good luck.

any other suggestions?

In order to get scholarship money at TCNJ, you must apply before December 1st(Priority Deadline)

By Dantrek (Dantrek) on Saturday, October 09, 2004 - 11:32 am: Edit

Do you think not taking SAT IIs will hurt me much, despite my honors english classes, with good grades, and other APs in the social sciences and mathematics?

By Itsjustsarcasm (Itsjustsarcasm) on Sunday, October 10, 2004 - 09:53 pm: Edit

Okay, I applied and was admitted to TCNJ last year and a) you don't need to apply before December 1st to get scholarship money. There is no priority deadline there like that, b) not taking SAT IIs isn't going to really hurt you at TCNJ, and c) you probably will get in. You have a really good shot at your match schools, NYU is a toss-up (it always is), and UVA is incredibly hard to get into. Good luck!

Here are some other schools you may want to consider. I think you have a good shot at all of them because of your high class rank. Best of luck!

Emory University - I know someone who got accepted ED with similar stats.
Georgetown - Reach Possible
Bucknell - Match
Boston University - Match
Tulane University - Match
University of Delaware - Safety
University of Pittsburgh - Safety
