Discus: What Are My Chances?: August 2004 Archive: My core six, considering adding Pomona & Claremont McK.

Hi all,

I'm an Asian female in a MD public high school of about 2,250. I have a core list, but I'm considering adding others.

Quick stats:
3.76 unweighted
4.51 weighted
1440 SAT I (740 V 700 M)
SAT II Math IIC 780 Writing 750 Bio 680 US 670
Forensics Oratory Team Captain, Debate Team Sr. Member, Peer Mediation Captain

Core six:
UMaryland College Park
Boston University

Quick Note: I don't have one type of school on my list, obviously. I'm considering Business management, so these are mostly universities, but I leave Economics open for my liberal arts schools. I'd like flexibility too, because I am looking at Psych and Sociology as well.

I'd like to add Claremont McKenna and Pomona, but they are a bit far from home.

You should have a good shot at NYU, Stern would still be a match/reach, but CAS should be a match. George Washington should be a match/safety. I've seen many others with business majors who apply there. You should have great shots at them all with the exception of Swarthmore, Penn, and Georgetown. Those are hardly ever anything but reaches. Are you thinking about ED'ing anywhere?

on Stern - great match, except for the fact that I don't like NY. Same problem with Columbia.

on GW - good school, but would prefer Georgetown over GW.

on ED - would love to, but can't afford it.

anyone wanna comment on CMC and Pomona?

Thanks for shooting down my whole post.

About CMC and Pomona, you are good enough to apply anywhere, if willing of course. You would definately make a good candidate there as well. Go to their boards for better perspectives.

How about adding Emory? A lot closer than Calif. Good luck - you already have a nice list of schools and both Pomona and Claremont-Mckenna are also great.

awww... don't feel bad yugekorb. I didn't mean it that way. :-D I was just responding; at least I have some reasons for my college list. I really do appreciate everybody's comments; it's helpful, even if some of the suggestions aren't applicable.

Emory - parents... don't like GA. They are somewhat racist and don't like southern schools. Otherwise...

On another note, if I do add CMC and Pomona and Berkeley... is 9 too many schools? Can that many apps be done in good quality?

I was just kidding. If I wasn't then I wouldnt have said anything about CMC and Pomona. Although it did stop me from mentioning
