What do you think about my chances for CalPoly San Luis Obispo, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, and Santa Clara in engineering? I am from Texas enrolled at a prep school. Thanks y’all.
my school doesn’t rank, but I’m roughly top 15%
3.8 GPA unweighted
4.1 UC GPA (hard to calculate out of state)
SAT I: 1380
SAT II (taking again): 710 math IIc, 710 physics, 650 writing
Freshman Honors Classes: 1
Soph Honors Classes: 2.5
Junior Honors/AP Classes: 3 (one AP)
Senior Honors/AP Classes: 3 (four AP)
AP:
AB Calculus – 5
BC Calculus (senior year)
Statistics (senior year)
Physics C (senior year)
Spanish Language (senior year)
EC's (through senior year):
SADD – 4 years
Baseball – 4 years
Choir – 2 years
PALS – 1 year (leadership position)
Student Ambassadors – 2 years
NHS – 1 year
Big Brothers - 1 year
Community Service through junior year: 74 hours

I'd say you have a good chance at Cal Poly and UCSB. You probably have a good chance at UCSD, too, but its admissions are generally more competitive than the former two. UCLA will pose a greater challenge because it is quite selective AND you are coming from out of state. One thing that will pose a challenge to the UCs is your class rank, but I think your gpa and independent schooling may make up for it. Write some good essays (especially since UCs don't do recommendations), though, and you'll be in fairly good shape!

just to add...i dont know if it makes a difference, but specifically i want to major in civil engineering or mechanical engineering..thanks

O, also, try to raise your Writing and Math scores, especially for UCLA and UCSB.

Another school in California you may want to consider is the University of San Diego (USD). It's similar to Santa Clara, has a good engineering department, and would be a safety for you.

usd has a small engineering program! but the campus is beautiful..LMU has a larger program
