Chicago is going to be a bit of a reach for you, but if it is your first choice, what the hoo!

By the way, what do you want to major in?

At any rate, given your credentials, I would look into the following schools.

Other reaches (I would apply to 4 of the following 9 schools):
Carleton College
Carnegie Mellon
Cornell University
Johns Hopkins
Michigan-Ann Arbor
Oberlin College
Reed College
Texas-Austin
Wesleyan University

Matches (I would apply to 2-3 of the following 5 schools):
Georgia Tech
Occidental College
Tulane University
Union College (NY)
Wisconsin-Madison

Safeties:
LSU-Baton Rouge
Washington-Seattle

i wanted to major in biology. I didnt think chicago would be a reach or CMU. And I thought i would have a decent chance at cornell ED. I am a little confused. sorry.

The mean SAT score at Cornell is 1380. At Chicago, the mean SAT score is 1410. At both schools, 80% graduated in the top 10% of their HS class and the mean GPA (unweighted) at those two schools is anywhere between 3.8 and 3.9.

Canregie Mellon is a realistic reach/tough match. But since you want to apply in Biology, I would not even bother applying to CMU, Texas-Austin or Georgia Tech.

The other schools are all very good and you have a shot at all of them.

I'm so disgusted by the people on this board who tell you that you have less-than-stellar stats. You have amazing stats and you definitely have a bright future ahead of you!

Apply EA to Chicago. My senior friend got into UC with a B/C average, 1 EC, no legacy, and a 32 on the ACT. He's very creative and probably wrote a very "Chicago-style" essay.

Don't emulate anything. Be yourself. If you and Chicago are meant to be, you will be admitted. Chicago loves expression. Let them know who you are.

Good luck.

Lax, I assume you are referring to me. I actually think Vijeth has excellent credentials. I would not recommend schools like Chicago, Johns Hopkins, Cornell and Michigan to somebody who is not excellent and I would no recommend them if I did not think he had a good chance of getting in. All I said was that those schools are reaches for most students. I don't think that's an exaggeration.

Vijeth, if you apply EA to Chicago, I believe that you stand a very good chance of admission (you have a good chance outside of EA, too). However, one of the very big factors in admissions decisions at Chicago are the quality of your essays. Chicago likes to read interesting and quirky essays; your run-of-the-mill college essay won't cut it at Chicago.
