I really am still in the early stages of this college thing. Here are my stats
GPA and Test Scores
Weighted 6.38 Rank 60/575
Unweighted 3.5 Rank 75/575
(Sorry I have no clue what the weighted is out of)
ACT: 30
My courseload:
The toughest Math and Science Track ending with AP Physics and AP Calc
Honors English and History but not AP however i recieved a subject award in History my junior yr.
5 yrs Spanish (two in junior high)
ECs
Student Association President
Varsity Softball 2.5 years plus captain my senior year
Travel Softball 3 yrs
JV Basketball
Jv Softball
Frosh Volleyball
Frosh Softball
President of CEC Basketball (coaching basketball teams of children with special needs)
Band 4 yrs (Prob 1st or second chair next year)
NHS member
Percussion Ensemble 3 yrs
Orchestra 2 yrs
My weaknesses:
I'm only taking two AP's
MY GPA is kinda weak
I've never had a job or internship
My recs will be strong and my essay will prob be good.
What types of colleges can I get into?
I live in Illinois and prob will end up in the midwest though I am open to anywhere (except the south) esp California. I want to attend a college in a populated area and prefer a medium sized one with a strong sense of pride and spirit. Although I'm not planning to play softball in college I love sports and would like to attend a college with a strong athletic department.
So far my list is as follows
Reach
UVA
Michigan
Notre Dame
Match
Madison
UofI
Purdue
UC-SD
Safety

What do you want to major in Nic?

If you're majoring in Engineering, U of I is a slight reach and UCSD is a reach. Purdue is a pretty "safe" match.

I'm not positive what I want to major in yet but possibilities include engineering, business and politcal science. Are my reaches too "reachy"? What are some good saftey schools to add?

I think you'll get into UI and UW-Madison. Engineering.. I don't know.
For your reaches: 1. Apply EA to ND or Virgina (not sure on their policy)
2. Apply literally in the next 30 days to Michigan. You are extremley borderline because of the GPA/Rank, however the high ACT, tough load of courses, and good essays will help. I highly suggest not going in engineering for these top schools unless you're 100% sure as that it will decrease your chances.
