This fellow claims that his kid as already received an acceptance package(RA) from Amherst. Could this be true? Has anyone else received an RA acceptance?

Amherst & Swarthmore did send out likely letters in early March. In the past couple of weeks some students have received e-mails about their acceptance. The rest i guess just have to wait.

My daughter's friend got a letter from Swarthmore in early March that was either an acceptance letter or very close to it. Her "stats" are quite similar to those of my daughter, who has also applied there, except that the friend took just slightly more AP science courses and is also able to call herself Hispanic due to one of her four grandparents. Subsequent contacts from Swarthmore have mentioned, I understand, opportunities for "international" students at the school, so it would appear that she was hand-picked, at least in part, due to checking that Hispanic block!

As for emails, Amherst's site did say at one point that students who had supplied email addresses would be notified by email by March 27 of the admission decision. Later information on the site, however, said that was incorrect, that emails would not be sent, and that decision letters would be mailed on March 28. It would make sense that they would not be anxious to send bad news by email. An all-purpose, impersonal rejection LETTER is cleaner and neater for all concerned.

I must say, hope is dimming for my daughter, as it looks like there would be hints by now of a pending acceptance if this were the case at either Swarthmore or Amherst.

Marylandmom,
Don't give up hope on Swarthmore. My impression is that the early acceptance letters went out to a relatively small number of applicants. I'm sure there will be a larger number of acceptance letters that go out this week. Keep us posted!

Amherst did sent out emails to at least some who were admitted. Not just likely letters. I don’t know if it is sent to all those admitted.

hi. I did recieved my regular action reply from Amherst in early March. The letter was dated March 3. I was so surprised and they used UPS. What's more, I got 32,000 US dollars scholarship from Amherst. And I thought, this is it !! I'm going to Amherst. I got admitted to UPENN with 33,000 scholarship and MIT. However, because Amherst seems to be so excited to have me, and I love small colleges like Amherst, I'm going there this fall. By the way, the acceptance letter said I was among the select group of most outstanding students who received the decision early and it was signed by the dean of admissions, Katie Fretwell.
