By Jay1927 (Jay1927) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 02:49 am: Edit

im currently a junior going into senior year

SAT1 : 620 Math / 600 Verbal

SAT2 : 730 World Hist. 660 Bio. 550 Writing

im taking math 1c and 2c in october, expecting high score

i have a tough schedule, as i am "doubling up" my classes because of not being in honors my freshman year

APs
World Hist - 4
US Hist - 4

next year's schedule:
AP Lit
AP Stats
AP Calc BC
AP Physics B
AP Computer Sci A

living in new york, im taking SUPA classes as well.

I have a 94 average un-weighted throughout my high school career, i dont know GPA equivalent

dont know rank, but i believe im in top 10% out of 200

EC:
Key Club
Math Club
Computer Club
Chess Club
NHS

I want to go into Pre med, but dont know which schools to look for

I would like to go to a competive school in the north east or mid atlantic

what are my chances at schools just below ivy, or anything else..

I'm not sure if schools would accept both IC and IIC. You stand a pretty low chance at any top 25 school. Premed makes JHU jump into my mind but you'd be at the bottom of the barrel with low EC's and scores. I'd look state schools and lower ranked private schools. What kind of school are you looking for other than competitive? Small, large, liberal, conservative, laidback, cutthroat, etc? Whats going to be your major?

very low chance at bottom 25%, you need at least 1350 to be competitive unless your minority

wait a minute how do you expect to do well on IIC or IC if you scored a 620 on SAT I math

i consider my strength is in math, even though my SAT 1 score doesnt show it. My friends who took the 2c in june told me it was pre calc and scored high. Math 1c is trigonometry and i just took the class last year along with pre-calc. I believe that im bound to score high on one of them, ill send the score to a school.

Im probably going to major in biology/ chemistry..etc.

School size doesnt really matter to me...basically im looking at schools that average people have a tough time getting into. I know im not ivy material, maybe not even in schools right below...

heres what im looking at
BU
NYU
manhatten college

are these reaches?

is north eastern or quinnepiac or binghampton a match?

i believe stonybrook is a safety school

I really don't mean any offense in saying this, but I wouldn't expect a very high score on either IC or IIC, based on your SAT I math score. IIC is a very difficult test, but has an excellent curve. IC isn't all that hard, but the curve is awful. If it gives you an idea, I scored a 700 math on SAT I, and got a 700 on IC. I wouldn't expect to perform extrordinarily well on either test. That said, in the scope of things, a 1220 really isn't that low- in fact, it's well above average. I'd say NYU is a definite reach, but I'm not really sure about the others.

I should have put this in my last post but I forgot :)

For you, I'd suggest IIC- since the curve is better, and it's much different than SAT I math, you may do just fine. Maybe the tricky uselessness of SAT I math is what's tripping you up.
