Discus: What Are My Chances?: July 2004 Archive: Narrowed my list...a penny for your thoughts
By Kbelle (Kbelle) on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 - 08:07 pm: Edit

ok i've narrowed my list to a couple colleges that I would like to attend. I want to major in communications/advertising and/or marketing.

Boston University
Northeastern
Fordham
Syracuse University
Emerson College

I took my SAT's for the first time in may I got a 1220 ( 600verbal 620math). It's not the greatest but I know I can get in the 1300's.

I have a full course load next year including a few APs and I have good extracurriculars (yearbook, national honor society, art club, library club, cheerleading, etc...)

I really love Boston and would like to live there so my top choices as of yet are Northeastern and Boston University...

So here is the question .. What are my chances?? And can u suggest any colleges I should add to my list?

edited to add : I forgot to tell you guys my grades lol. Well my overall average is a 98 (my school doesn't use the gpa scale). I should be the salutatorian, if not then I am definately in the top 5.

You probably can get in all those places with a raised SAT score. For some of those (i.e. Northeastern and Emerson) it won't matter because of your above average academic accomplishments. For several of those places, you also have a chance at merit aid.

Apply early to Boston U if it's you're top choices... it will improve your chances, and you already have good chances.

You are IN at Fordham and Northeastern, and you are probably in at Syrcause and Emerson.

I'm pretty sure you have a good shot at Northeastern. I know someone who got a 980 on their SATs and had minimal EC's, yet a slammin' essay, and they got in. I'm applying to Emerson too! I want to major in Communications TOO! LOL
Over 4,000 kids apply to emerson each year, and only 650 get in. Ouch. But you never know!

Now where's my penny?

thanks for everyones replies!

can someone explain early admission to me. some people say you have a better chance of getting in but I visited one college who said they don't really admit a lot of early decision applicants for various reasons. Also if I don't get in for early admission to a school am I deferred to regular admission automatically? thanks in advance.
