Here're my basic stats right now, as a junior:
Unweighted TGPA: 3.64
Weighted TGPA: 3.71
Class rank: 49/429 (ouch! seems random as a
4.3+student with 8 exceptionally
difficult courses per semester can be
ranked 6 whereas a mere 4.0 student
with minimal and non-academic courses
can be (and is) 1)
SAT I: 710V, 570M (1280) (retaking)
ACT: Taking in April (PLAN predicts 31+)
SAT II: Taking in June (expecting 800, 750, 670)
PSAT: ~188 (horrid!)
Course load: taken most rigorous available, incl.:
* English (H) I, II; AP English III (Lang)
expect to take AP English IV (Lit)
* Two years of French (will be taking college
French during summer)
* Total of 4 non-academic classes taken for HS
graduation requirements (total courses: 33),
including Academic Decathlon
* Current&Proposed APs:
* AP Language/Composition
* AP Literature/Composition
* AP Biology
* AP US History
* AP US Gov't (not offered class)
* AP Economics (not offered class)
* AP Calculus
* AP French (not eligible via class)
Extra-curriculars:
* Theatre/Drama (4+ years)
- Officer: Clerk, Vice President
- Misc. Leadership: Stage Manager, Tech
Director, Ass't Director
* JSA (3+ years)
- Officer: Vice President (expect to be
president next year)
- 3 Best Speaker awards
- future State cabinet member
* Journalism (2 years)
- Editor (2 years)
* INTERact (Student rotary club; 2 years)
- class representative
* NHS (1 year)
- no leadership
- committee head & community representative
for Operation Provider, local
food&resource provisions distribution
center
Miscellaneous "Honors," et cetera:
* GSE Honors designation in Biology, Chemistry
(for those who don't know, GSE is optional
statewide merit testing for various
subjects; ranking levels, if any is
achieved at all, are Recognition, Honors
and High Honors)
* Highest service learning award for class of
2004
* Published author (fiction) (tiny printing)
* invited to join and attended 2002 UCR Summer
Academy; creative writing course, taken for
college credit (3.0)
Intending to attend:
JSA Summer School @ Stanford University
UCR Summer Academy for Advanced High School
Students (I kid you not; that's it's title)
Information that may be of use:
- 1st generation college student
- low-income family
- family issues causing majority of B's in
record (no C's present, by the way)
- capable of writing killer essay (I hope!)
- CA resident
And, just to shock everyone with my audacity, the list of colleges to which I intend to apply:
Stanford (Early)
UC Berkeley
UC Los Angeles
New York University
Harvard University
I realize they're all reaches for my record -- I don't intend, after all, to attend a school at which I wouldn't be satisfied, and if I can't make those I'm taking the CC-to-transfer route -- but I am hedging my bets on the fact that admission is sometimes quirky with its "diversity" factor, and they could use someone like me to give you super-achievers an audience.
At any rate, from those of you who've either applied before and been rejected, accepted or waitlisted, I'd be curious to know your records. I am most specifically interested in those students who have a record as shabby as mine with some success stories. Heaven knows I've had enough of beating myself up over my troubles.
Have fun laughing at this one, guys.
