Best advice on law school in the world, given to me by my uncle, a VERY successful corporate lawyer in NY:

Major in something you like. Who cares what it is......law schools and employers don't! What do you like to do? If you like history, major in it! If you like math, major in it!

Why?

Well, the more you like a subject, the better you will do, and your ranking, GPA, and LSAT scores are what get you into a strong Law school, not your major.

I'm planning on Harvard law, and I'm a hisotry major. I love history, and I've got two years of college under my belt with a 4.0. I've got a lot of friends who chose to major in business or poli sci based on a false notion that it would make them more attractive to law schools. They have three times the workload I do, much harder classes, and lower GPAs. They all wish they'd chosen a major that interested them.

Don't trust me? Call any lawyer, and he/she'll tell you the same thing.

I assume you are talking about eventually going to law school and not simply going to college and majoring in something like Law and Public Affairs or similar political science/sociology degree programs.

As to law school, what you take in high school, except courses that get you into college, is irrelevant. There is no particular preparation for law school at the high school level, or even at the college level for that matter. As the above poster mentioned, if you want to go to law school, the key is to get a high GPA in college and score well on the LSAT exam. A math, engineering or science major has the same chance of getting into law school as a business, political science, history, or English major. In other words, there really is no special preparation for law school. Some colleges have "pre-law" programs. Those are created by colleges to sell students on something as they neither add to nor subtract from your chances of getting into law school in relation to other majors. If I were to recommend anything at the high school level that starts you on the right track, it would be English and writing courses and math and sciences as mastery of English and the ability to write well are critical to a lawyer, and math and science courses start to train the mind to think through complex problems logically and in stages.
