Hi, I am currently a junior and was wondering if I could have some input on what people think my chances to get into HYP, Columbia, and Cornell are:
GPA: 3.99 unweighted, and my school does not rank
AP/Honors: Every core class I have ever taken was an honors class. Also, my school offers about 7-8 AP classes, of which junior year I am taking two and senior year I plan to take three. I also plan to take AP Spanish and AP French exams on my own and I expect to do well on all of these AP tests.
SAT: 1490 (800m/690v), might retake to bring up the verbal
SAT II: Math IIC – 800, Writing – 790, and I’m taking chemistry in May which I expect to do between 750-800.
EC’s: (including years/estimated years I will be doing them)
- Vice President of French Honor Society (10-12)
- Spanish Honor Society (11-12)
- National Honor Society (11-12)
- Model United Nations (conferences at many ivies) (9-12)
- JV Debate (9-12)
- Interact Club Treasurer (10-11)
- Some tutoring in Spanish (10-12)
- Destination Imagination (technology fair) – first in state (9)
- Students against Sweatshops (10-11)
- Mock Congress Senate Secretary (11-12)
- Columbia University Science Honors Program (11-12)
Some Other Stuff:
- About 60 community service hours now, but I plan to do more
- Summer job as hardware technician at large company
- White male/no legacy
I plan to major in either engineering or something language related, I’m not sure yet. Thanks a lot for your input!
-Charles

Are you applying to Columbia's fu foundation? Because if you are, then your chances are probably up there with Cornell's.

i'm probably going to do the combined 3-2 columbia program, so i'd be applying just to the college

Intricate, as a side note, did you know that 86 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot?

Columbia's Fu Foundation is their engineering school. It's not nearly as hard to get into as the actual college. It's a decent school, but nothing great.
