I can barely wait for UC decisions, let alone the private school ones. Ease my anguish:

Columbia
Gtown
Rice
Pomona
NYU
Emory

GPA: 3.9 W
no rank
sat 1: 1490 - 760 V/730 M
SAT 2: 750/740/730
AP's: 5/5

Bad junior year grades; 2 C+'s, 1 C.

EC's:
Art: sent in a portfolio:
http://www.lilaznonprozac.deviantart.com/thumbnails
most of the stuff up there is included in my portfolio.

Debate 4 years
Tennis 3 years
Officer in local comm service org my friends created. 1 year.
70 hours comm service

Nat'l Merit Finalist, art awards, debate awards, 2 gold for medusa mythology exam, designde logo for IYAF

My essay's are pretty good i think, but rec's nothing special.

That's all I can remember right now... so yeah, rate me.

ure junior grades are gonna screw u over. After all, junior is probably the most important year. then again, u never know

By Kiko (Kiko) on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 10:17 am: Edit

Pomona- no problem ( if you're talking about Cal state Pomona)

By Thedad (Thedad) on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 01:02 pm: Edit

Agree with Faxmachine, those junior grades are going to screw you royal; adcoms are going to ask "wtf is going on here?"

Well...crap. Now, I don't know. I took a look at your website and you've got some real artistic talent. Someone who takes a good view of your portfolio may give your junior grades a pass the same way that theater kids are rated mostly on audition unless their grades/scores are really rank.

What major are you applying as?

You're a good textbook case of why admissions decisions are not cut-and-dried.

As of this moment, my guess is that some schools will be scared of your C's and others will take a flyer on your portfolio, especially if you applied as some sort of art/design major.

NYU - no.

NYU has this thing about Cs. Rejected a very promising ED candidate from my kids' high school last year (1450+ SAT) -- explanation to GC was 1 C during junior year! But maybe if you are applying as an art major they will only consider your portfolio.

PS - kid ended up at much better school after all!

By Mattymatt (Mattymatt) on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 01:59 pm: Edit

i don't belive nyu would deny someone based soley on a C.. the average hs gpa isn't even that high for there 3.6-3.7?

By Mattymatt (Mattymatt) on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 02:00 pm: Edit

he's a national merit finalist, nyu specficly has scholarship and honors programs set up for that

By Faxmachine (Faxmachine) on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 02:53 pm: Edit

then there u go...i really hope u make it

By Demiurge (Demiurge) on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 07:18 pm: Edit

i'm a she.

I do have an excuse for those C's... I transferred schools for my junior year, and so I had my counselor write something about not being able to adjust well. The school I transferred to is one of the top public schools in CA.. ranked in the top 15 at least. so they gotta think it's pretty difficult, right?

I'm not applying as an art major to any of my schools.

And no, it's not cal state pomona, it's Pomona College of the Claremont colleges.

Yeah so, I guess i'm just hoping they accept my excuse for my junior year and that portfolio is decent enough to get me in.

Demiurge -

My father teaches at CMC. Those (excluding Pitzer) are GREAT schools. Good luck!

Where are you in SoCal? Have you had a chance to visit the Claremont Colleges?
