My opinion...
Great stats.
HYP Columbia- Accepted to one, rejected from 2, waitlisted at one
Cornell- Accept
Rice- Waitlist (the only reason you're waitlisted is because they probably get a lot of applicants from that area)
Chicago- Accept on the basis of "nice essay"

I don't know how much this matters, but my interviews at Harvard, Yale, and Princeton went extraordinarily well. Yale's went so well that it lasted for 2 hours. I also should note that I applied with an application fee waiver in case that makes a difference (maybe they want social class diversification). Thanks for all the opinions and please keep them coming.

they don't place much weight on interviews,

and one of my interviews was three hours.

so it is not unusual or anything.

I'm also interested in knowing how you were able to self teach yourself physics. I'd also like to do that.

My school only offered 1 year of Physics on a strictly high school level. This didn't include anything to do with energy, photoelectric effect, magnetism, or anything complex. In fact, basic optics (concave and complex mirrors and lenses and law of reflection, truly basic stuff) were the most complex thing we did. I sat down with a textbook and a princeton review physics SAT II book and taught myself by reading the book, doing problems, and learning the theory. Thus, I learned much more than I could have possibly learned in my class. The Princeton Review book was especially helpful. The Barron's book I bought was pretty bad, and isn't very recommended. I hope this helps.
