Tufts is the 4th highest after amherst. Boston college and Brandeis are below.

I'd rate MIT above Harvard. Amherst would be pretty high, above BC, BU and Brandeis. Smith although it is a girls school probably deserves a mention.

3. Amherst
4. Tufts
4. BC
5. Williams
6. Brandeis
7. Smith
8. BU

BC is definitely above Brandeis and Wellesley. Commonwealth College (UMass honors program) is up around #7
By Qwer (Qwer) on Tuesday, February 25, 2003 - 11:25 pm: Edit
no, BC is definitely below Wellesley. Wellesley is the best womens school in the US.
its a toss up with brandeis and bc. i just rank brandeis slightly higher due to stronger education in the most desired fields: premed, prelaw and business.

Babson has one of very top Grad schools in country for Business, but not much for undergrad.

1. Harvard
2. MIT
3. Amherst/Wellesley
4. Tufts
5. Brandeis
6. Williams
7. Boston College
2nd Tier (not that great schools in any subject...UMass is tier 1 for engineering though and BU is some subjects. WPI and NE aren't great):
10. Worcester Polytechnic Institute
11. Boston University
13. University of Massachusetts at Amherst
14. Northeastern

Why are you all ranking Brandeis so high? I thought it was just average. Besides, Usama is a graduate of Brandeis. I say it should be below williams, bc, and bu (not bc of usama, bc its not all that good).
By Nymom (Nymom) on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 06:50 pm: Edit
Where did you hear that? Anyway, fyi, Brandeis is ranked 31 by USnews, BC is 41, BU is second tier.

What does US news base its rankings on?
By Waitlistedkeith (Waitlistedkeith) on Wednesday, April 09, 2003 - 11:16 pm: Edit
ahahaha. this is funny. I wouldn't compare school like Amherst or Smith with MIT or Harvard. I think it's just too different type of universities to be compared. For me, as a student admitted to MIT and Amherst looking for a BACHELOR's DEGREE, I would put Amherst at the top.
1. Amherst College
2. MIT
3. Williams
4. Wellesley/Smith
5. Harvard (but for those who are interested in pointless exercise in Narcissm, definitely #1)
6. Tufts
According to U.S. News, Amherst is #1 liberal arts college in the United States. Williams is #3. Harvard is #2 among the doctoral universities and MIT #4.

Northeastern should be moving up in the rankings. Read this Article from yesterday's Boston Globe:
