Did anyone get into a UC's with a lot of C's on their transcript for their semester grades??? What were your other stats... sats,ec's etc... and what was your GPA??
By Greenmoo04 (Greenmoo04) on Sunday, April 11, 2004 - 07:14 pm: Edit
Yes- actually I got TWO C's because it was in Chemistry AP and Honors. I got tons of B's also- I think over 10, lol. My overall UC GPA was 3.7, UW was 3.44, Weighted 4.2. My SATs were 1210- 650 wr 630 ushis 620 m1c. Lots of leadership and involvement- got into UC Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Irvine.

Oh, I also got a C in Geometry Freshman year, but since UCs don't count it, it's all good, except they still see that "C"....
By Caliplaya03 (Caliplaya03) on Sunday, April 11, 2004 - 07:26 pm: Edit
congrats on your acceptances! well a C in AP and Honors Chem is not bad at all.
By Greenmoo04 (Greenmoo04) on Sunday, April 11, 2004 - 08:07 pm: Edit
Thanks, but I think it significantly lowered my GPA...plus, I got a 1 on my AP test...lol...maybe it depends on the subject? Like getting a C in Chem when you're a Chem major...

Well you must of had some kind of hook. You probably wrote a great essay and had great ec's and it's not like your grades were awful

Really? I thought my grades were second-rate, especially compared to a lot of 4.2's UC GPAs at my school. Are you a senior? Applied to UCs?
By Caliplaya03 (Caliplaya03) on Sunday, April 11, 2004 - 11:28 pm: Edit
lol i'm a sophomore... and ya your grades aren't the "best" but i mean grades dont make a person. You must be really interesting and i think the UC's saw that.

Hey, just wondering...
Sophemore year, I took Honors Chemistry and got a
'F'(I was lazy :<) the first semester and dropped out and took regular Chemistry the second semester. Junior year, my school didn't offer Honory Chemistry so I took the first semester of regular Chemistry. I got both A's in regular Chemistry.
My question are:
1) What will the college think about my 'F' in Hon.Chemistry?
2) Will they count Honors Chemistry for the "UC's a-g course requirments" GPA calculations?
OR
3) Will the college exclude my 'F' in Hon. Chemistry and take regular chemistry 1 & 2 for "a-g" college GPA calculations?

By Jason817 (Jason817) on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 - 10:20 pm: Edit
the dorms suck at UCSB. Whatever.
I got no C's. In fact I got all A's and was rejected by UCB and UCLA
By Lockin54 (Lockin54) on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 - 10:39 pm: Edit
I like the party scene but its a really really small town, the beach at santa barbara sucks. The people are all of one type, not much diversity of opinion.
By Caliplaya03 (Caliplaya03) on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 - 03:47 pm: Edit
hmmm that is interesting to know. Is there anything you particularly like about UCSB?
By Lockin54 (Lockin54) on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 - 04:11 pm: Edit
i like that the people are open minded, though they all pretty much fit into a neat group they are very liberal, accepting of homosexuality and other races. I like the feel of the town, there is an energy of everyone out to have a good time. It has sort of a resort feel to it. Its just so small, if you come from a small town you will probably like it. I'm from San Diego which really isn't that big but it feels huge compared to here. Personally i don't this is a good place, and i wouldn't advising anyone serious about studying and growing as a person to go here. It all depend on what you are looking for really

anyone else?

Lockin54, you sound kind of bitter. So few people hate UCSB. The beach there doesn't suck, it's just a little colder than SD. (Probably less runoff from the Tijuana River, too...) I think anyone who is serious about studying will study and do well at Santa Barbara, or anywhere else, for that matter. It's all about attitude.
And Jason 817, you think the dorms at UCSB suck? Have you toured much? They're friendly, clean, and right on the beach. They're very comparable to other dorms I've seen at other schools but have a better location.

Well all i know is when i come home from the beaches in san deigo i don't have to pick tar off of my feet. There are also little tiny waves because it is in the channel. I wasn't talking about studying i was talking about growing personal. Its a white monied anclave and it does nothing to broaden your horizens. The dorms are fine, except thier dinner commons policy which is stupid.
By Ocliberal (Ocliberal) on Friday, April 16, 2004 - 10:41 am: Edit
It's the oil derricks off of Santa Barbara that cause the tar. Definitely not a good thing, I'll give you that. I think you can grow personally in any setting, though, if you are determined to do so.

I'm another San Diegan and I have to agree. It is a fantastic college (it is in the top 50 after all), but I don't exactly view it as a place to learn or change (for the better).

I heard it's really boring and the social life there sucks. Is this true... or is it what you make of it?? O and did anyone else with C's get admitted to any UC's.
